  • Rock climbing

    Hi,

I'm moving to Jakarta in a month or so and as a keen rock climber I am wondering whether to bring some or all of my gear.

Is there any climbing accessablie from Jakarta? I mean rock climbing as opposed to, say, hiking up one of the local volcanos.
Failing that, are there any indoor climbing walls around?

    Thanks for any info,

    Alex

I will share theinfo with anyone who emails me. In most cases,I need more info from the person asking before I can anwser the questions.

What type of climbing/ Sport or trad?
        Grades?

Most important, do you need a partner. I climb every weekend. I have been establishing routes here for the last two years. (Surabaya, not Jakarta)

I don't frequent the forum enough to be more helpful here. Email is more efficient for me.

Now, I need to go retro bolt a couple of anchors that were created with 1/4inch non SS material.

I don't really care much about rock climbing. Seeing that Gypsy had posted a comment, I sign on just to see if her right arm was getting tired.

I have heard that there is an indoor climbing facility at Pasar Festival. If anyone can post some experiences or other possibilities for climbing in and near Jakarta, it would be much appriciated.
                    Thanks
                    can't wait to climb again!

Not in Jakarta, but Surabaya now has South East Asia biggest indoor Climbing gym. Class 5 Recreational Climbing Center.

                          www.indoclimb.com

They also sell rock climbing gear and have a climbing guide service.

There's an outdoor climbing wall(at least the last time I looked) at Pasar Festival on Jl Rasuna Said in Jakarta. It's at the enterance to the stadium and the underground carpark. Not always in use.

There's no indoor climbing in Jakarta area?
I could accept failure but I can't accept not trying
