  • Best music school in Jakarta

Hi, can anyone advise me of some of the reputable music schools in Jakarta. I am thinking of international conservatorium level. I play guitar and bass and am interesting in studying while I'm here. Thanks.

Ups, sorry for answering your question with question. My daughter used to study organ at Yamaha and I think it's a good place to learn music. They have kids, teens and adults program. Just check their website for more info.

squarepeg, which international conservatorium do you mean? if it's Royal , then YMI (yayasan musik indonesia ) or YMD, ( yayasan musik Djakarta) is where you need to go to. - you can browse it ..it was in wisma subud di fatmawati once , but i heard it's already moved.

Yamaha is also a good place, but it's curriculum is based on Japan's standart. it's in gatot subroto, next to crown plaza hotel ..

if you want to learn about classic and jazz, you can go to IMDI ( institut musik daya Indonesia ) in ampera , kemang , close to that ibu dan anak clinic they have great teachers , they have the 3 years curicullum.
dont judge a book by it cover. judge it by it price. good books are expensive

There's a premiere music lesson studio for expats & international communities here. The place is called MUSIC TEMPLE, and they work with top international schools here such as JIS and AIS. They also have many adult students as well. Go to this website to find out more about them: www.learnatmusictemple.com

Yamaha seems to be the only Music school that is professionally organised in Jakarta, which may be the reason why it seems the best. I have been trying to get my son to go to Yamamha for Guitar lessons and Drum lessons too, but the only concern I have is their weird days and timings for each instrument and that they only offer 30 mins class, once a week, four times a month. I am really not sure how much can a 7 yr old child learn in 30 minutes a week.

Is it for private lesson? AFAIK they only offer 30 minutes class for private, but for group, usually up to 1 hour. For private student 30 minutes is a "boring" long time, especially if they have just learned it for the first time, don't know yet whether they like it or not.

right, 30 mins for private lessons actually, but if a child is a first timer then may be he needs private lessons to start with and later shift to group lessons. Need to take a plunge, will fix it up tomorrow and let him start somewhere atleast.
