  • Setting up a basic web site

I was going to add this to the other recent thread on this topic, until it kind of went off topic

Firstly, don't bother with flash. Especially for the introduction page. Internet is slow here and many countries and people generally will not wait for more than a few seconds to load.

I like to use Wordpress to run sites. It is made for blogging, but it is easy to use it to create a basic website for a company. It is also easy to set your staff up with accounts to maintain the content of the site without having any special knowledge.

There are thousands of great themes available for free! Most of them are good enough to use out of the box. If you learn some basic html, it should be easy to modify to get the look how you want.

One problem though is Wordpress sites can and do get hacked if you don't keep up with latest version. Fortunately this can be done automatically.

      Hello

many thanks for taking the time to offer constructive information.

as to orignal request and the consept, I was just looking for a basic
webpage/page's so I could keep a record of my motorbike project
to assit others with technicnical help etc. TBH most important would
be a gallery as there are a lot of pictures.

I will have a read and see what my options are.

      many thanks again.

        Sign up with www.moonfruit.com

Easy to use, cheap, flash format but fast to download.

You will like the gallery features.

The beauty of wordpress are the hundreds of free additions to it. There is gallery option also.

If you think you will keep adding content, pictures etc to the site, you might want to just running with a blog.

Blogs are the best way to attract and maintain your audience as people will follow your site using RSS, or get updates via email, should you wish to offer this.

Blogs also provide an easy way for people to provide feedback on your content.

This site has good information for learning web basics: http://www.w3schools.com/html/DEFAULT.asp

I do have a simple site that I wrote using corel web master. I used that as speeds are so poor here. I want to make a new site soon so I think I'll give the link a blast and see what's what. Cheers.

I use the hPage.com Website Builder - https://www.hpage.com to create a website. It's not flash and the websites you make with them are SEO optimized. You also don't need to learn coding to build a website there. It's one of my favorite resources online. It's also perfect for beginners who want to make a website.

WordPress is the most popular cms to design basic websites, and about 35% of websites are built on WordPress, but yes, for WordPress, you have to know the basic knowledge about coding. However, there are any cms on which you can build a? basic website by just drag and drop like Wix, But if we compare WordPress and Wix, then I always recommend WordPress.
