  • satellite dish

    hi
one question : I would like to watch on TV the european programs we are used to (german public TV channels like ZDF, ARD, French programs like ARTE, TF1, FR3)

so not the european stuff you get in the regular internet TV packages (like TV5)
    - I guess it means getting a satellite dish ?
how does it work, with which provider here in Jakarta? any tips?
    thanks

Normally getting these via Internet is possible too, although the broadcast organizations blocked many foreign IP addresses. But there are other options, like http://streamtivi.com/ , http://schoener-fernsehen.com/ and http://www.youfreetv.net/ among others. (Also search on Wilmaa and Zattoo.)

But if you want to go the satellite dish route, you have to check on which satellite the channels are which you want. Amongst others which are more country specific, AsiaSat are the satellites covering Asia. (E.g. 3S and 5.) Of course you won't have access to the Astra or Hotbird satellites which are used in Europe and which provide channels like ARD/ZDF/etc.

When the channels are Free-to-Air, you don't need any subscription, only a dish, LNB and receiver (with card slot). If the channels are 'pay tv', you need to purchase a decoder card which is inserted in the receiver, or get a subscription. Depending on the signal, a certain diameter of the dish is necessary. The satellites are obviously on a certain position so you need to 'aim' the dish. The position is often mentioned in degrees East or South. Therefore you will also need to figure out if you have an open view to that position from your roof.

So it won't be that easy, perhaps better to try online first. Here I did a test on the ARD livestream at http://mediathek.daserste.de/sendung...en?buchstabe=F, it's not bad:

If you decide for a satellite dish , you can look for stores at the "Yellow Pages" phone book , "Antennas" , or search the internet for "Parabola" . At the stores they normally have a list of all TV channels that you can get (example in the ref. below) .

PARABOLA MERUPAKAN SEBUAH SARANA PENERIMA SINYAL DARI SATELIT UNTUK LAYANAN TV MAUPUN UNTUK KOMINIKASI. SEKARANG PARABOLA LEBIH BANYAK DI GUNAKAN UNTUK MENANGKAP SINYAL SATELIT UNTUK KEPERLUAN SIAR…

If the above information were not enough for you to get what you want , I suggest you to search the internet for each channel you are interested . Usually each channel's website inform in which Indonesian pay TV provider you can get the channel .

And/or tell us the specific channels you are interested , so maybe people can inform you .

            Hi marcus,
            thanks for your time (Y)

I am more interested in reception of western european TV channels via Satellite + receiver, not via indonesian Pay TV provider ( if possible )
By western TV channels, I mean :

            French TF1, France 2, France 3,
Belgian frenchspeaking RTBF, La Deux, La Trois, RTL-TVI, Club-RTL
Belgian dutchspeaking Één, Ketnet, Canvas, Sporza, VTM, Vier
            German ARD, ZDF
            English BBC1, BBC2, ITV (?)
            Spanish TVE
            Italian Rai Uno
"European" Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Arte

Which is the main "public" package you can get as european western citizen via cable

Without checking I would guess that through an parabolic antenna you will not get any or at least most of those channels in Indonesia , you should try through the internet . This because with an antenna in Indonesia it is probably not possible to access European satellites , and these channels would not have commercial interest to transmit their signals in satellites near Indonesia , except that we in Indonesia can still watch BBC World , German DW (in English) , Euronews , one Italian , one French (in English) , and maybe one Spanish .

              You could check , maybe , by finding the nearby satellites (Palapa C2 , Telkom , Asiasat 3S , Asiasat 5 , Chinasat 6B , Intelsat 8AT , ..) and checking which channels each satellite transmit .

                Hi,

I first will check regarding those nearby satellites.

When you say that I should try through the internet, I guess you are referring to the post of jstar on 05-10-12.
I will try this way too.

Thanks for your help, marcus (Y)
