We have a huge (approx. 1 meter) biawak living in the sewer in front of our house. In the busy city. It is a kind of monitor lizard (varan); beautiful animal with that tongue coming out. Like a miniature komodo dragon. But very shy.

I'm always shaking my head when I read about people (mainly expats) trying to save an abandoned kitten here. In our street alone, a cul-de-sac, there will be like 35 cats. Kittens are born and get abandoned and become road kill every day. It doesn't make it right but that's the way it is. Those cats never catch any rats or mice btw; they prefer going through the garbage....

    My now-a-day pet are:
    - 2 cat (not allowed inside the house)
    - Numerous cicak (which eat insect & seem to be in decreasing number)
    - A lovely white spider with black stripe who stand guard on my tomato plant. I never saw an insect on the plant since it have make is domicile on it on a half rolled leaf.
    - At least one rat in the roof (We hear it sometime). Cat have kill some rat by the past, but it seem to always have one in the roof and probably two because we sometime here them fight.
    - A huge frog (hide at the entrance of the pipe of the drain water).

    Yah, that must be all...

Sanding paper. Female cats have it even more than males; it helps to stimulate the excrimenting of the new born kittens....

Garlic is not bad against fleas, tics and worms, but there are medicines (e.g. Drontal) which are much more effective.

And about storm, it was raining hard last week in south jkt, tree fallen, billboard also. But strangely there was not a single drop in the west. Stay safe!
I also prefer dog to cat... but for the feeling of their tongue licking your hand; Cat have largely my preference.
I had always hate any kind of licking by a dog. Seeing people getting their face liked by their dog make me
    It's disgusting!!!!

For home partner I prefer heu... another human!
Pet come with a cost of time and attention for them, nothing I'm ready to "spend" for a pet now... maybe when I will be an old grumpy...

? You feed them in your hand???
I had my finger "chew" a couple of time by our cat (when I was kid) because my finger were smelling food. If you feed with your hand you can need to expect they will bite you, you hand have the same smell than there food!

nah they fight each other, but actually i feed them all with some space like 30cm from each food that i put on the floor..but one cat that has their food still want other cat food.. and sometimes the cat growled..
and thats the moment when i put the food on my hand for the kitten to eat, and she chewed my thumb till bleeding
i was just fed her this evening and she didnt eat much, not sure because she is sick or because i didnt put the food on my hand (which is a bad idea i know lol, i wont do that again)
i just realized that the injured kitten is so small compared to her siblings.. but i try to give her the vitamins that still left. the vitamin was belong to rosie (the stray cat that was sick back then, now she is doing great)

yeah maybe she think that my finger is also food because the smell...actually she use to chew my finger but not a real chew like this, i almost cry like a baby because it was real hurt lol..

ah, hope your family is fine in there Phil!
