    Which sentence is correct?
    1. Saya menaiki tangga.
    2. Saya menaikkan tangga.
    The answer is:
Both are correct. But, those sentences have different meanings.

The first sentence means I climb the ladder, while the second sentence means I bring the ladder to a higher position.

In Indonesian, "menaiki" can be: to ride, climb, or ascend.
    For example:
    • Saya menaiki motor (I ride a motorbike).
    • Mereka menaiki tanggul itu (They climbed the embankment.)
While the meaning of "menaikkan" is to raise or elevate something.
    Example:
    • Kami menaikkan bendera. (We raise the flag.)
    • Pemerintah menaikkan harga BBM. (The government raised petrol prices.)
Well, it's pretty hard to remember all meanings without the context, isn't it?
Therefore, the best way to learn a language is to practice it.
