    (1) A "Study Permit" is necessary , according to what is stated at https://e-layanan.dikdasmen.kemdikbu.../elayanan2019/ (Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture's website) .

But , if a KITAS is really required , a KITAP will be ok too . It is common for a government department to make mistake(s) when referring to document(s) from (a) different government department(s) . They also mention a Surat Tanda Melapor (for extensions) which should not exist anymore , but many government departments continue to require it .

    (2) They do require a KITAS in this photo : https://e-layanan.dikdasmen.kemdikbu...g/slide/3.jpeg

But in the same website they do require the KITAS but only for the Student Permit's extension (see below) .

Poster's Note : I recently experienced transferring my wife's kids from the school in one Indonesian city to another , and it was a nightimare (so many required documents) , so it looks a lot easier for foreign kids .

      Thank you for the information.
      - Do you have to apply for the new/renew "study permit" again upon moving your children's school from one city to another?
      - Does it required an annual extension ?

My son's former school applied for this permit upon our arrival 4 years ago (we were on KITAS at the time) and they always handled annual renewals (according to them, but we never get involved) , and now he's changing schools and unsure if we need a new one because we're now on KITAP etc.

        (3) My wife and her kids are Indonesians , so a different process .

        (4) I don't know , but I think (in your case) it is relatively easy , and the new school will probably inform you of any required document at the beginning of each scholar year or semester .

As your kid has a KITAP , this requirement is not aplicable (in my view) .

I guess that they require this 18 months because an one year Student Visa (which will soon after become a Student KITAS) requires a 18 months remaining validity of the passport (although I would not require neither it nor a KITAS , because , let's say , a foreigner may want to study with an up to 180 days Social Cultural Visa , like a foreign kid I know did some 15 years ago) .
