  • Working for a US based company in Indonesia

I will try to be as clear as possible.

    I am an American citizen.

I do not have a degree from a university, I went to a technical vocation high school and have been in the same field for 18 years,

I am planning to marry an Indonesian girl next summer. I visited her and her family and absolutely fell in love.

I currently work for a manufacturing company in USA doing technical support for our products. I basically work for a call center and help contractors troubleshoot our products and help guide customers.

I would like to work remotely and set up in Indonesia, but still work for the same company.

I understand I will need to pay taxes to the Indonesian government based on my income.

    My questions:

Does the company I currently work for need to register as a corporation in Indonesia and pay any kinds of taxes?

Is the infrastructure in Samarinda capable of supporting something like this? I would be taking calls from the US and Canada. While I was there, I did not have any issues with my internet while I had WiFi.. Do they have the infrastructure for having cable internet?

Would it be legal for me to do this kind of work in Indonesia?

Are there any other questions I should be asking?

Thank you for your help. I've been reading these forums for a few months and haven't been able to find anything regarding my specific situation.

    (1) No .

    (2) I don't know Samarinda , but searching the internet I see that it seems you have many options there : besides the usual 4G cell phone networks (Telkonsel , Indosat , XL , SmartFren , ..) you can find the landline phone company (Telkom IndiHome cable internet + TV) , and at least one big TV/internet company (MNC) and other smaller internet provider companies . More details , search the internet for something like : internet cepat di Samarinda.

    (3) After you marry and get a "residence permit" (KITAS/e-ITAS) sponsored by your Indonesian wife , the Indonesian Law states that you will have the right to work , but still there is no Regulation to implement this rule . You should talk to your Samarinda's Manpower Department & Immigration to be sure but probably there will be no major problem as the Law was issued in 2011 and up to now we didn't hear of any problem with the Forum members in similar situation neither read anything in the news .

    (4) Maybe about Visas , e-ITAS , ...?
