Unfortunately I read MrCIbubur's post too late and I had already paid the fee for the KITAS extension. Don't think there's much I can do at this point, but it would be great if anyone who happens to visit either of those offices can ask and let us know what the answer is.

In more than 50 Immigration processes I never paid in the same day I requested something . Payment was always at the end of the process .

      • I extended my spousal KITAS for the second time recently, and found that the procedure has been simplified.

Namely no more visits to the KanWil as they apparently do this with their own internal system now. This is especially great for people where the KanIm and KanWil is a distance away. After submitting the application it takes 2 weeks before payment and biometrics, then another week before it is ready.

Also as previously discovered, the MERP is now mandatory. This is a good thing for me personally as I always get one, so this saves yet another trip to KanIm. People who do not get MERP normally however will discover that the the effective cost of the KITAS is now Rp 1 million more (due to MERP).

Finally, you no longer need to type your own surat permohonan, just the form they provide is sufficient.

So a KITAS extension + MERP now "only" takes 4 visits to KanIm:

        1) Pick up forms
        2) Drop off application
        3) Pay and get biometrics
        4) Pick up KITAS + MERP

        Where previously it was:

        1) Pick up forms
        2) Drop off application
        3) Pick up package for KanWil
        4) Pick up package from KanWil and drop off at KanIm
        5) Pay and get biometrics
        6) Pick up KITAS and submit for MERP
        7) Pick up KITAS + MERP

I didn't pay the same day I that I applied. I submitted the application, and returned a few days later to pay the fee.

          • Nasi Posse, ar eyou saying you are extending your Kitas for 6 or 12 months?

Either way, just go with the flow and then keep in track for the Kitap thereafter.

and I hope they will not ask me to wait 9 month (12-3) for asking for the KITAP

              • Hello good day. I just got asked by a friend of mine, if I know what would happen with his KITAP sponsored by Indon. wife if he gets divorced. Unfortunately ( or better:fortunately) I could not answer but got intersted. Did not find an answer.

                • I'd heard, on this forum, that there is a time allowance for changing your sponsor. What I have forgotten, is if it is 30 days or 3 months (Marcus posts 60 days, below). I know that is a big difference. I forget the thread title, but the conversation had somehow been steered to the possibility of divorcing one's wife, then remarrying her, so as to allow one to make a pre-nup.

*Time limit explained in post below, and Marcus is consistently right.

He needs to present a new Indonesian sponsor to Kantor Imigrasi :
                    - if the marriage had more than 10 years , he has to do that without a time limit ,
                    - if the marriage had less than 10 years , he has 60 days to do that , from the date of the divorce certificate .

For marriage with less than 10 years , I think he cannot extend the KITAP .

                    • Thank you, Marcus. What kind of SPONSOR you mean? New wife or husband? Or just any Indonesian citizen, who has to write or do what?
Is there a quote in any law about this?

                      • I remember some threads and posts which covered what would happen with KITAS/P holders after divorce or passing away of the spouse. In particular one case was interesting about a guy who described the process after his wife passed away. He (finally, they had initially no idea what to do) could select a sponsor from the family-in-law.

                          (1) The Regulation does not specify (see below) .

                          (2) It seems like a sponsor change process , so letters from both sponsors and the other usual things .

                          (3) Not Law , but Regulation (see below , Google Translate can help translate it)

As always the Translator is very bad, but thanks a lot Marcus. It does NOT mention if marriage LONGER then 10 years, and what about if wife dies?

I also prefer Google Translate, because if you/they get it wrong, it won't be my fault... but here is a rough gist of the meaning.

1: For a mixed-marriage of longer than 10 years, the KITAP is still active even though the couple is divorced or separated.

2: The Kitap holder above must find an Indonesian sponsor.

Additional tip: you can put the text above into google and it will bring up a complete text, which you can then translate (be sure to check it isn't "detecting" Bahasa Malayu), like this one, http://www.imigrasi.go.id/phocadownl...hun%202013.pdf
