The passport must be just still valid . As the KITAP process may take some few months to complete (although normally it takes only one month) , so in practice , valid until some 3 months after you submit the request for the KITAP should be ok .

        The answer would be depends.

Why would a KITAS for a teacher take any longer then for anyone else? Is not your school taking care of your KITAS and work permit?

          (1) Yes , if your employer and Manpower office have no objection . Lately Manpower has been issuing Work Permit to be added to KITAS sponsored by Indonesian spouse , but better check first .

          (2) As far as I read in this Forum , it is not a problem with Immigration , but with Manpower & Education Departments .

So Marcus, if someone were to have a wife sponsored KITAS and wants to work in the teacher sector, the work permits and age requirements would still come into play and would still take just as long to process as if sponsored by the school.

Thanks for raising this matter FP. It is one of the issues I am trying to explore in my new thread called "Working as a teacher if obtaining a work permit is a problem"

So far it has attracted no replies.

Well , I don't have any experience in this subject and I didn't learn enough about in this Forum .

In terms of the old age rule , I think that it is applicable to Indonesians and so should be applied to foreigners in Indonesia too .

I dont agree. Public servants may have to retire at 55 but they then can go on to do other work if they wish. This is not possible for expat teachers, and perhaps other professions.

                  • I don't know the details of what happen in the real world .

I meant (and this is only my personal opinion based in my "common" sense) that it seems that there is a rule that imposes an old age limitation to Indonesians (in general) , so foreigners in Indonesia (in general) should also have this same limitation (unless there is a specific rule for foreigners) .

I didn't have the motivation to read the rule , so if you didn't too , here is the reference :

It is on page 28 pasal 67 sections 3 and 4. DIKTI is spending an enormous amout of money now, giving full scholarships to Indonesian lecturers to complete their Ph. D. Studies overseas...]

                    • Thanks Marcus for your effort fishing this out. I will read it. It might prove important for my new thread, where I am trying to look at how expat teachers might be able to re-join the workforce by various creative and hopefully legal ways.

I would think the best legal ways would be to follow the requirements of the regulations. Any short cuts and in-arounds to achieve something is always questionable.

True. But for some of these teachers its a matter of life and death. Some NEED income and some need to keep their very capable 60 year old minds busy.

If the requirment says 60 is the cut off then 60 is the cutoff. Time for a hobby.

                            • Some people see it as a sad waste of skills and motivation. Until a pool of good English teachers builds up again here it is not unreasonable that those in the pool, who need work, should try.

So you are suggesting people circumnavigate the requirements of the laws so they can keep working? Just what is the rating of the pool of English Teachers here? Who rates this pool? I doubt if the pool is better or worse then it has been for years and will remain the same for years to come.

If you were a teacher and you were approaching 60 I would think you were making plans for reaching that age and not being allowed to teach in Indonesia. If they feel they should get some sort of preferable treatment because they teach, they would be wrong. Their choice is to move on where they can find employment, set up their or their wife's business. The other option is to be prepared and find something fun to do.
