  • Damn, what a few miles difference can mean when it comes to an Immigration office. Turned in my paperwork received in Jakarta to transfer my KITAS to Lampung. Had everything they needed except they wanted an additional sponsor letter directed at their office. Like we were accustomed to in Jakarta, we asked where we could go and have the sponsor letter typed up? We got a look and the Immigration officer said he would just type it up for us. They even help fill out the forms. WHAT? Service over and above what is required? Well. I've never. He said he would call in a few days to let us know everything was ready. I am actually believing he will.

My KITAS is close to needing renewal so we asked about that. Said bring it in a few weeks prior to expiration and they will have it back to me in a week to 10 days. OK, they are not as busy a Jakarta or cities with a lot of expats but still, it's just nice to run into these type of government offices. I think a few boxes of donuts are sue these folks.

OK, need to edit. They have already contacted me that my transfer is complete. The next day. How about that? Looking like this Immigration office is very professional and everyone has been more then nice and helpful. No longer dreading when I need to renew my KITAS. Don't expect any problems what so ever. No coffee money paid either.

    • The Dokim needs to be filled in for the MERP request. So, to simplify matters, it seems that they created the same template for both ITAS and MERP.

      • I am in the process of converting my social budaya to a KITAS. DirJen Jakarta requested that the local immigration office interview my wife and I, which they just finished last week and have just today send the report to Jakarta. Anyway, my sosbud is almost up (September 11). The immigration official mentioned that if I extend my SosBud, the process for the KITAS will have to start all over again. It was my understanding that I could extend my sosbud while the process for the KITAS continued.

Does anyone know if there are laws that allow me to extend without having to repeat the process all over again? Any help would be very appreciated.

An extension is NOT a terminaison. Extending your sosbud permit is the way to go. The officer in Imigrasi is wrong. Ignore him.

            appreciated.

By the way , I once got a similar information from the "Izin Kunjungan" counter (Sosial Budaya , Business) . The officer told me that , as a extension process needs the passport , they could not do it as my passport was kept in the KITAS' process . So I talked to the sector boss (Sosial Budaya , KITAS , KITAP , ..) and she said to me to not worry about , just wait a little more for the KITAS final Jakarta's approval .

Other posters here did extend the Sosial Budaya during the KITAS process , so I suggest you to talk to the the ITAS counter's officer (in our Immigration , the counters of the 2 processes are separated) and/or with the section boss , about the solution for that . There will be no need to start the KITAS process again after they had accepted the request and gave you the request's receipt (named "Tanda Terima Permohonan ITAS" or similar) .

            • What is the typical process of converting a KITAS 1 to a KITAS II? Anything special you need or is it like getting KITAS I with sponsor KTP, Marriage Document, Sponsor Letter, and Passport with KITAS I. Without all the running around. Any UU that mentions the process?
              thanks.

                thanks.

                (1) Basically the requirements documents are the same . The first KITAS extension doesn't need Jakarta's Immigration Directorate's approval .

                (2) No (as far as I know) .

                  Thanks Marcus,
I went to Immigration office yesterday. Gave them the same paperwork as the first one in Jakarta. Filled out the documents there, changed the Sponsor letter to how they like it, and was told they will call in Two days for us to pick up documents that will need to be taken to the Wilaya where I will receive a document to bring back to the KamIm and I will have my KITAS II. I asked to pay for it but was told just wait until it's finished. They take the picture for the KITAS but still need to supply a 3X4 picture in triplicate to affix to the documents. Said to just bring them when I return after their call. So far, so good.

                  • Hope all is well with your process Fast Pitch. I'm picking up my letter of recommendation to covert ITAS to ITAP tomorrow at Kelapa Gading, hope there's no drama with mine.

                        thanks

First thing to do is to report that to your Kantor Imigrasi (required by Article 71 & 116 of UU no.6/2011) .

At the same time , I think you need to present a new sponsor for your present KITAS (one of your wife's relative ?) . See Article 160 of PP no.31/2013 below .

I suppose that after that you cannot extend the KITAS anymore , but better check that with your Kantor Imigrasi .

In case you cannot extend your KITAS anymore , you will have to choose other types of visa for coming to Indonesia (a one year multiple entry Social Cultural & Family Visit Visa , a 60 days Tourist Visa , a 30 days Visa-on-Arrival , ...)

                          • Bandung Immigrasi isn't bad. I know there was a law saying if you were married and had a Kitas for so many years, you were "vested". Perhaps it was 10 years? How long do you usually stay in Bandung?

I'm sorry for the loss of your wife.
