KITAS sponsored by the Indonesian spouse

Hi there,
Now, some of these questions may be answered somewhere within the last 99 pages, but I did a quick scan and didn't find any.

Could someone please shed light on the following:

1. I have received a KITAS in the past. Will this have any impact on my new application?
2. Can I apply for a KITAS as soon as I arrive in Indonesia on a SOSBud, or do I have to wait a few months?
3. I plan on doing some traveling outside of Indonesia while I am living in Indo. Will my KITAS allow me to travel outside Indonesia and re-enter?
4. My husband will be my sponsor - how does this differ from having a female sponsor?

1. No, unless you were blacklisted or left without EPO.
2. Right away (see item 2. in post #1).
3. No, then you need a multiple exit and re-entry permit (MERP), this translates itself as a (additional) stamp in your passport. Quite some threads on that.

An EPO is Exit Permit Only. Yes, you need a permit to leave Indonesia.

MERP is something on top of the KITAS. It is no visa but a permit (izin) as well. You will also probably read about the single exit/re-entry, a SERP.

No, only Sosbud (sponsored) can be converted into a KITAS. The alternative is the VITAS route (with the infamous telex etc.); there the applicant is abroad.

You could enter on VOA, leave for Singapore and get a Sosbud there via an agent, that can be arranged in one day (3-4 days if you do it yourself). Of course it will cost you.

For the SoSBud, does the sponsor have to be Indonesian, or can a non-Indonesian who is living there long term be a sponsor? I am just looking at some of my options.

Background story - I am moving to Indo for ~ 8 months (Dec 13 - July 14), my Indonesian husband will be with me, but his KTP card is registered to Jakarta and we will be living in Bali. My brother works in Bali, so I was wondering if he could possibly sponsor me on a SosBud. I will be traveling in and out of Indo a couple times during my stay so it would be great to get a visa that allows such. Any thoughts?

Hmm, as of 2011 a foreigner (WNA) can not sponsor a SosBud (or VOA extension) anymore. It's a shame and rather annoying. The www.expat.or.id info on that is not accurate btw.

Of course, a single entry SosBud expires the moment you leave the country. And the 'visa runs' to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur can be quite costly.

There is a multiple entry SosBud, valid for 1 year but each entry is limited to 60 days. That is something you might want to check out. As alternative, I would go for VOA (30 days with one extension), which gives more or less the same (rather flexible) result for $50 per two months. No pre-approval and visiting embassies abroad necessary every time you enter the country.

1/2. Holders of KITAS/KITAP must get additional Exit Only Permit (EPO) , or Exit/Re-entry Permit (single - SERP or multiple - MERP) , in order to leave Indonesia .
EPO is for when you don't want to return during the validity of the KITAS . It is used after you cancel the KITAS/KITAP (returning KITAS/KITAP and "blue book" do Kantor Imigrasi)
SERP or MERP is used when you want to return to Indonesia within the validity of the KITAS/KITAP .

A. Your options :

(i) Single entry Sosbud Visa + 6 months' KITAS (both must be sponsored by your Indonesian spouse) , + SERP or MERP . You can get the Sosbud with the KTP from Jakarta , then quickly request a Bali's KK & KTP for the KITAS .

(ii) Multiple entry Sosbud Visa , valid for one year . You must request a Jakarta's Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi's "pre-approval" through the internet , then when ready , someone needs to be in Jakarta to pay for a telex (Rp50'000) and maybe present some original documents there . The telex in sent to an Embassy of your choice , which will issue you the Visa .

(iii) Depending on when will you leave Indonesia for the first time , a 30 (30 more by extension) days Visa-on-Arrival , or a 60 days Tourist Visa , or a (up to) 180 days single entry Sosbud Visa .
Leaving Indonesia cancel these type of Visas , you will need a new visa to return to Indonesia .

interview at home all done, they were very friendly!went well,just asked questions like everybody else and took photos of everything including goats and graveyard out back....still going on about reporting marriage to aust. embassy though..tried emailing embassy but they say have to sight buku nikah in person,'easier dealing with local authorities'...imigrasi accepts that i have emailed embassy and still waiting for reply and can show them in the future...actually i dont think they have ever seen a marriage notification from embassy coz they couldnt think of an example of one,i'll try in bali next time i go....

I have emailed the Sydney Embassy, their website says you ca do by mail with self addressed envelope etc. but I can't mail them my passport because I need it to travel there... I have asked if they will accept a photocopy of my passport and then I present the real one when I get there... let's see if they reply to my e-mail...

(1) Somebody can do the request through the internet , but later somebody must be in Jakarta to pay the telex (or similar) fee (Rp50'000) + present some original documents (see how in the links below) .

(2) Your best option is to get a single entry Social Cultural Visit Visa (single entry Sosbud Visa) , and later convert this Sosbud into a KITAS (inside Indonesia) .
For that , your Indonesian wife needs to send a sponsor's letter , + a copy of KTP , + ...(see the Embassy's website for the requirements) .
Through the Sosbud Visa , nobody needs to go to Jakarta .

Note : Sosbud and KITAS must have the same sponsor to do the conversion Sosbud > KITAS .

(3) The more reasonable agent's price for a VITAS + KITAS process is around Rp4 million .
But we recommend you to do the Sosbud Visa > KITAS by yourself . We can give you all the details for that .

I thought I would post my experience of doing the "Online" Application for VITAS through DitJen website...:

1. It was pretty difficult to register at first because kept getting error messages from their server, but then after 3rd try it went through!
2.Got an auto-reply e-mail from [email protected] email address! - yes - Gmail...
3. Logged in - no problem
4. Chose application - ITAS ikut istri
5. Completed application
6. They requested following scanned documents to be uploaded as JPEG only and less than 400kb size :
Wife KTP
Wife KK
Wife NPWP.... Do you think they use this to check her income??
my Passport (all pages)
"other supporting documentation" - I uploaded marriage certificate.
7. Received another auto-reply from the Gmail address stating they will contact with decision and payment of Rp50k by wire in 1 day...
8. 2 days later... Still waiting contact...

I am sceptical... I think this "online" service is just to make them look modern but I doubt it works... My wife previously used their "online" to apply for a passport... in the end when she went to kantor imigrasi with her "online" application, they said she still has to do all the normal paperwork and show docs anyway! - what a waste of time doing application twice!...

And aren't you in Australia (domestic flight does not need the passport) ?
If you are not in Australia , this country where you are now does not have an Indonesian Embassy ?

These visas are such a pain, but I guess if I want to stay there, that's just what needs to be done. I'll look into your suggestions more closely now!
