I will be just fine. All will be done and I will get my KITAS. Perhaps it will take a bit longer but it will still cost much less. Yes, I am retired. Not planning on staying in Jakarta and will be moving when I aquire the KITAS. I actually do have the time and frankly, it is also something to do since there is very little for us to do in our area. So far we have contributed about Rp200,000 for taxis. Around 5 hours with taxi time and office time. In the end I will compare it to the 7jt the agent wants. Plus, even with an agent I would need a couple visits to various offices.
One thing for sure, I get to learn from this and will be even more prepared for each visit I may have. I will not pay a single Rupia for corrupt people. Sure, I may not be first in line but I'm still in line and if worse comes to worse I am not afraid to mention that I would question their performance at a higher level. The next person from Immigrations that tells me it would be easier if I had an agent is getting a reply from my wife that I was asked to do it myself and give a report of my dealings to an unnamed individual. Let them wonder who. Some love to milk Apostate.

actually I was first in line at Jember. just walked straight up to closed counter and asked them when can they see me,and waited for half an hour while they having lunch..better than the other 50 people with tickets waiting all day to get passports...half an hour work getting Map etc. and arguing the point about Letter of No Impediment and reporting marriage at aust embassy...next day returned with new sponsorship? letter [given someone else's example, typed it up on laptop in hotel and downloaded it at imigrasi (thank you),another hour total at kantor..now waiting for sms....

This is a concept I will give a thought to.
As you said, everybody does what (s)he thinks it's best. Indonesia is far from being perfect but it is a country I care for. Personally I just want to be no part in contributing to mess it further but am delighted at participating in its improvement whenever I can, at my small level. That is why I don't look at the personal time invested, both in an administration or in this forum to explain teh regulations in leyman terms whenever I can.

Successfull story of how i got my KITAS (sponsored by my husband) without any bribes
In 2012/2013 I have been in Indonesia with a KITAS sponsored by the local university where I was studying. As I am married to an Indonesian man, I wanted to switch the sponsorship from the university to my husband. After discussing with the local kanim, it seemed impossible in this case (only possible to switch from a PT sponsorship to a spouse) and I had to get EPO.
So I decided to get a visa social-budaya in Kuala Lumpur before entering again in Indonesia on 22nd June 2013. Straightly after, I went to my local kanim in Padang, to ask for the conversion and they told me I can only convert my social budaya visa into KITAS after the 3rd extension. As I read on this forum the law which says we have to wait 4 months in Indonesia to get a KITAS has been abrogated in 2005. So I went back there with the copy of the law and read to fight for my rights. The employee there sent us directly to the chief of the department “Alih Status”. We show the law but still he said that it’s not possible and nowhere in Indonesia they are doing that whatever the law. Finally, after arguing discussing a lot, we went to see the chief of immigration to show the law. After reading carefully the law, he finally said that it seems correct that I can change my social budaya into KITAS directly but in Padang, they had never heard about this law which seems still very new for them (law in 2005, and we are in 2013 but it’s still maybe too new). He told me that he has to confirm first with other authorities more skilled in this field, and kanim will let us know about the evolution of our request.
Finally after a week, we still didn’t hear from the officer in kanim so we called the chief of “Alih Status” department. On phone he said, they asked information to other authorities and it seems that I still have to do one extension otherwise my request will fail. As we didn’t see why it would fail, we decided with my husband to meet directly the chief of immigration directly. In the corridor we met by accident the chief of “Alih Status” which was surprised to see us. He explained the same story that he explained on phone about our case and that it was useless to go to see the chief of immigration. We told him that we still want to meet the chief of immigration to ask for a consultation. So he hurried up in his office to print something while we were waiting for a meeting with the chief of immigration. Not so long after, we could finally talk with the chief of immigration and the chief of Alih Status came in the same time. So we explained again our problem to the chief of kanim and that we don’t understand why the law is not applied while it was made in 2005 and clearly state that I don’t need to wait to get my KITAS. The chief alih status showed the print screen he did by telling us that there is no such option “converting from social budaya into KITAS” in their national software on computer so it’s impossible. Finally the chief of kanim decided to call a friend in another kanim or another institution to ask for confirmation. At the end of the conversation, the chief of kanim confirmed that it is possible to change directly without waiting. So here we go for our conversion around the 15th July.
We asked for the documents required for my application to drop the files as soon as possible as after it will be Idul Fitri, lebaran in August and the office will be close. Unfortunately we had some problem as the KTP of my husband and his KK was from another city, and we had to change everything to get a “Surat Pindah Datang WNI” to be able to apply in the kanim padang where we are living. Finally we got this surat and they received our files on 31st July. The officer in kanim asked me to come back on 12th August as it’s lebaran the week after so they don’t work. My visa finished on 20th August so I hope I still have enough time to get the letter from Dirjen without extending my visa. Then, the day after (on 1st August) I received a sms from kanim to say that my letter was ready and I can bring it to kanwil. So I hurried up with my husband to bring my letter to kanwil. In kanwil they told us that they will write directly this letter so if I can wait 30min it would be ready on the same day to post it to Dirjen. After 30min, I got my letter and I could post it quickly with Tiki. In Tiki they told us that the letter will arrive on 2nd August so the last day of work before Lebaran.
As we know that it takes around 5days of work to get the letter of Dirjen we waited before calling. On August 14th, we called Dirjen to be sure that they received our letter and if the process is almost finished. After 1h30, we could finally get someone on phone and asked us to call back in 15min. 45min later, she said that my files is blocked because kanwil Padang forgot to click on “OK” for my file. Ok, let’s go back to kanwil to fix this mistake. We decided to wait couple days to recontact dirjen to let them time to process my files. On 16th august we contact Dirjen again and the woman said that my KITAS has been approved and it’s on the last step (kiriman). I contacted my local kanim to see if they can see the approval of my kitas on their computer but apparently it’s still in process. The kanim will contact me on 20th august to see if there is already the Surat Keputusan, as my visa will be expired, if not so I have to make an extension for my social budaya visa. On 20th, unfortunately, the letter is still in process in Dirjen so I had to make my extension. On 29th August, Kanim Padang called me to come to take photos and fingerprints and pay 755 000 Rp as they have just received the letter. As I could see on the letter, the decision of my kitas has been approved on 15th August, so I didn’t need to make extension as it was before the end of my visa, but it was already too late to complain about.
Finally, on 2nd September, I took my KITAS for one year and my blue book in immigration. Now I’m in process to make SKTT in catatan sipil. Everything goes fine until now but I’m still waiting to get my card.
In conclusion, the process of changing my social budaya visa into kitas went fine and as expected. I didn’t bribe anybody to get it, and paid the normal fees. I advised everyone who can to do the conversion alone as it’s not that hard. And I would like to thank everyone on this forum for the help and tips to get through this. Next step, my KITAP next yearLast edited by memel; 28-09-13, 17:42.

Next week i will be applying for my KITAP ,hope that everything will go well . Sponser by Indonesian Wife .
I will post my findings on this forum. Initial thoughts is going through an agent. But the prices is too too high . More than 20 million rp.
Opinion is only 3 .
1)Apply for my fifth KITAS
2)Apply for KITAP
3) Get an EPO and come to indonesia with normal tourist visa
In the past , I applied for Kitas as I do lived in Indonesia for a couple of months each time. But now I need to come back to indonesia to settle some personnel matters on monthly basis for 7-10 days. Any advise what I should do ?
TO apply for KITAP or just come on monthly basis.
My thinkings is to apply for KITAP and if the immigration officials did not " granted" it . I will just get a EPO and say bye bye .
Better than to see them on a yearly basis to extend my kitas / MERP .

i) Multiple entry Social Cultural & Family Visit Visa (multiple entry Sosbud Visa) , which is for one year , multiple visits to Indonesia , 60 days maximum each visit .
ii) Visa-on Arrival (VOA) , if you are eligible (see link below) , which is for initial 30 stay days but can be extended for 30 additional days .

-------------------
For you to request a KITAP , you will have to stay in Indonesia for at least one month .
-------------------
(B) If you are married for more than 2 years and have all the required documents in order , Immigration cannot deny you the KITAP .

Dear Marcus ,
1) Multiple entry Sosbud visa to me is the similar to Kitas .
2) My passport is visa free, which means I can enter Indonesia up tp 30 days with to pay on visa fees .
3) yes , I had already submitted my application today . See how It will go .
Marriage for more than 10 years , going to immigration for more than 50-100 times . In the past when I cannot apply for Kitas, I am on Sosbud visa extend every month till 4 times for a couple of years . After that I went to apply for Kitas when the rules indonesian wife can acts as a sponser for Foreign husband. Actually my heart tells me , if I cannot do the Kitap , I will just apply EPO and come back on monthly basis as a normal visitor. no worries about this.
Sometimes even when you have all the documents in order , the attitude of the immigration officials will put you off. I had to be very very patient with them . let see how my kitap application . Will keep all of you informed.

She already went to imigrasi office in Denpasar and they said she must deal direct with Jakarta for this... Does she have to physically go to DitJen in JAK in order to do this ourselves? or does anyone have a contact at DitJen to whom we can maybe e-mail the application..? (we have a young baby - difficult and more expensive to fly to JAK and stay in hotel etc...). It seems the only way to do it from here is to pay a visa agent 7 juta!
Thanks for any help!

(2) Your best option is to get a single entry Social Cultural Visit Visa (single entry Sosbud Visa) , and later convert this Sosbud into a KITAS (inside Indonesia) .
For that , your Indonesian wife needs to send a sponsor's letter , + a copy of KTP , + ...(see the Embassy's website for the requirements) .
Through the Sosbud Visa , nobody needs to go to Jakarta .
Note : Sosbud and KITAS must have the same sponsor to do the conversion Sosbud > KITAS .

(3) The more reasonable agent's price for a VITAS + KITAS process is around Rp4 million .
But we recommend you to do the Sosbud Visa > KITAS by yourself . We can give you all the details for that .Last edited by marcus; 01-10-13, 21:18.

Hi there,
Now, some of these questions may be answered somewhere within the last 99 pages, but I did a quick scan and didn't find any.
Could someone please shed light on the following:
1. I have received a KITAS in the past. Will this have any impact on my new application?
2. Can I apply for a KITAS as soon as I arrive in Indonesia on a SOSBud, or do I have to wait a few months?
3. I plan on doing some traveling outside of Indonesia while I am living in Indo. Will my KITAS allow me to travel outside Indonesia and re-enter?
4. My husband will be my sponsor - how does this differ from having a female sponsor?
Thanks in advance,
Charlotte
