Sorry , I didn't understand your point . And what is PP ?

I'm under 55 and my wife sponsors me.

Luckily, we have used the same "agent" helper for years for various different types of visas, and he has a long list of other expat customers and thus experience with just about every situation you can imagine. It *is* possible to find a reliable agent, but probably only through word-of-mouth recommendations from your friends.

        Hi Bule

I'm new to the forum & looking into getting my KITAS. I work offshore, so have just been coming & going on a tourist visa each month, but time has come to put more roots down. I need a KITAS for bank accounts & shipping my personal effects in a container from the UK.

Can you please pass me the name of the agents you mention, as i am sure it is a minefield.

        • Hi All

Does anyone have any experience of KITAS & Importing personal effects. My question is, what happens if my KITAS is issued in Jakarta, but we then import our personal effect container to Bali. Will the Jakarta KITAS be a problem or do we need to apply for a KITAS in Bali & then bring our container over?

Assume you are married to an Indonesian citizen. It's not a minefield. A little laborious, tedious perhaps, but not difficult. For you the issue may be that at a certain point (post DitJen Jakarta endorsement) time is critical - their endorsement and that of KanWil subsequently must be executed at the local KanIm within 30 days.

Agent or not, be aware that it starts with you entering on a SosBud visa issued by an Indonesia embassy/consulate outside Indonesia. And that the process within Indonesia (SosBud to KITAS) must be through the KanIm of your wife's KTP location.

Thank you for the clarification . Although I could guess I didn't remember seeing it before in this Forum .

I don't have experience in importing personal effects , but from what I know about KITAS , if you have a KITAS issued in Jakarta but want to live in Bali , you are required to register the new Bali's address in your KITAS "blue book" at Bali's immigration office .

                  • The issue of receiving personal effects freely, just because of a retirement kitas in Indonesia, is arbitrary.

We sent 2 boxes of crockery (wedding gift 25+ years ago) and, on arrival at JKT, customs ignored our new kitas, passport arrival stamp, and demanded our boarding pass from the flight we arrived some 1 month previous to the box arrival to secure our free personal effect status. Who keeps boarding passes months after a flight?
They charged us 3M just to get it out of customs...if it hadn't been because of my wife's emotion, as the boxes were already opened by Customs, I would have thrown the plates all over the place, taken a video, and sent to TV and media.

I only offer this as fair warning and suggest to ship "door to door' and let agents sort those officials.

marcus is also correct in his post. I moved from Jakarta to Bali and had to go thru' the process of changing our Kitas to our new address, even we only had a month remaining before a new Kitas. Also, the car has to be re-registered, which we are still processing...paper, paper and copies of paper. For a country that has so many Blackberry users I'm amazed at how much paperwork the bureaucrats need ..it's lucky Indonesia has many forests that can be destroyed to make so much paper.

                    • Hi everyone !
So I sent the letters from KanIm and KanWil last Thursday using Pos Express. Called Jakarta on Friday, was told they hadn't received the letter yet. Talked to a lady called Detje who told us to sms on Monday. We sent sms on Monday morning asking her about the letter, she smsed back at 8pm ! Still no letter and a problem with their server... Went to Kantor Pos yesterday morning, Pak Pos checked on his computer : the letter was delivered on Friday, he gave us the name of the person who signed to get the letter. We tried all day yesterday to call Jakarta, we smsed Detje and asked her to please sms / call us back, nothing... At around 2.30pm, we finally got someone on the line... and we talked to Detje, who told us our letter hadn't arrived. We told her it had and gave again the name of the person who had signed the pos register on Friday. Detje told us that it didn't really matter anyway because she had all my data on her computer, she could see the letters from KanIm and KanWil. But she was still waiting for the server to be fixed. She said they wanted to see the letter because it had all the photocopies in it. We checked with her we had sent the letter to the right address, no problem there !
Now I'm really confused... How can the letter get lost in their own building ??? How are they going to send the ok letter back if they can't check the docs ? We told her my sosbud was running until Feb 12th but that I'd have to extend it if I hadn't received the letter from Jakarta by the 5th. She said it wouldn't be a problem because they're online and so Immigration in Medan would see they had received the docs... She doesn't know the officers here !!!
What would you do if you were me ? Any advice ? Please help !!!

                        I would try :

                        (a) Asking Kantor Imigrasi and Kantor Wilayah to give a copy of the documents (make an extra copy to keep) and mail them to Jakarta again .

                        (b) Doing the (a) above but asking Jakarta if they could accept receiving the documents by e-mail (scanned copies) instead of by mail .

                        • Sound advice from marcus. I strongly agree that you should keep photocopies of anything the government produces.

Have you considered talking to someone OTHER THAN Detje, like her boss? It could be typical incompetence or laziness that is causing this person not to be in possession of you packet - or even worse. I would err on the side of caution and assume that there is a problem and keep a log of everything you do revolving around your documentation - who, what, when, where, etc. If necessary, produce a letter for the head of DirJenIm describing the problem but I don't think you would want to write anything condemning Detje unless you have solid proof of negligence or malign behavior. Just write it in a neutral fashion and let the cards fall where they may.

Is it possible to talk directly to the person who, according to the post office, received your documents?

                          Namaste, peace & love,
                          Glenn

                          • Thanks for your answers !
Marcus : I did make copies of the letters from KanIm and KanWil before sending them and so could give the e-office number to this Detje person. That's when she told me she could see the info concerning my file on the computer.
Glenn : We didn't ask to talk to this Dejte person but she's the one who answered the phone last Friday and gave us her phone number to send smses. We phoned again on Monday and Tuesday. When the phone was finally anwered, a woman picked up the phone, told us she was going to look for our letter and suddenly hung up on us. When phoning again, another lady answered and handed the phone to that Detje person.
I wanted to call again today but it is a red day !!! Will phone tomorrow first thing in the morning.
We gave Dejte and the other woman we talked to the name of the person who signed to get my letter, they just said "ohhh". To make things easier, they only have a first name, no family name... I guess there might be more than one Prima in the building !!!
Maybe I'll tell the person I'll talk to tomorrow that I'm going to write to her boss if they continue syaing they haven't got my letter. Do you think it could work ?

                            • If you do it politely after continuing to get the run-around from them, I suspect it might work. When I wanted my SKLD last year the police asked for a bribe until I said no and that I'd be going to the complaint department about it. They suddenly lost interest in a bribe.
