Hey, atlantis.
I married a indonesia girl and we registered in China. Now I want to ask something about registering in Indo and visa:
1. If we want to register in Indo, do we have to supply a prenup?
2. I am wroking in Indoneisa now. How many years after we get married, I can work in Indo without working visa.
Thanks in advance.

Hi atlantis,
Very useful post man. very much appreciated
But I had a question though. I am in the process of resigning from my current company in Tangerang. I have a company sponsored KITAS which will be cancelled I guess as part of the process. I am also married legally to an Indonesian citizen. So it is possible for me to get a wife sponsored KITAS without exiting Indonesia or convert my current KITAS to a wife sponsored one? Does the KanIm make an exception in cases where a foreigner came to Indonesia as a single with a company sponsored KITAS but subsequently wants to resign from the company but continue to stay in Indonesia with his wife?Only the dead have seen the end of war

I'm in the process of converting my sponsor from a company to my wife. It is a gray area in the law and it's turning out to be quite a pain to do. Immigration delayed it for about 3 months (actually, they tried to kill it while promising to help with it) and now KanWil is making a fuss.
If you've got the money, I'd suggest you just leave and come back in on a fresh visa sponsored by your wife, such has been recommended in this thread. It's more expensive, perhaps(!), but it's easier to do in the long run.
I'm sure someone will chip in if there's another way of doing it other than bribery.
GlennI'm not arrogant or a know-it-all - I'm over-eager to help & not very good at writing humbly. Verify my answers!

Ah good to know there is someone else trying to do the same thing! Thanks man. I was hoping it would be quicker than the normal process, irrespective of the cost. Time is of the essence for me for various reasons. But if I have to climb high bureaucratic walls & still no guarantee of a quick success then I guess the normal process is better.Only the dead have seen the end of war

Hi everyone, just wanted to share our experience so far in regards to a KITAS II. We had several issue and it's not over yet...
1. We had to register our marriage to "kantor catatan sipil" (It is to get "SURAT KETERANGAN NIKAH" ) even we have "Buku Nikah".
FYI when we made our KITAS I, Jakarta office didn't ask for that.
2. According to pak "kanwil tanjung pinang" we have to get our "Buku Nikah" endorse by Canadian government, the problem is canadian government won't endorse any foreign country document and to get it registered (Insertion of an Act, Register of Civil Status), you must live in Canada not abroad.
3. My wife have to make new ID (Change to current address) even her ID still valid till 2015 (We move house 1 year after our marriage, so my wife ID still at old address, and when we fill up the form for KITAS II we have to give our current address which is different with her ID, The officer at Kanwil said it can cause deportation if they go and check at old address and We're not there anymore, i don't know if this information is valid, anyone?)
Just to share the procedure for marriage registration for those who married in KUA :
a. Get "surat keterangan" from "KUA" for married registration at "kantor catatan sipil"
b. Bring this letter to "Kantor Lurah" and get another "surat keterangan nikah from "Lurah"
c. Copy all your document when you get married at KUA. KUA office should have the whole big bundle of all your marriage document ( For me is "Statement in lieu of certificate of Non-Impediment ", Declaration solennelle, Birth certificate, ID, ect)
d. Make foto of you and your wife side by side the size is 4x6 (not separate, funny request from the Kantor Catatan Sipil, I had to go twice and come back)
e. Fotocopy your wife KTP, KK, Akte Kelahiran, "Ijasah", fotocopy and "legalisir" of marriage book
f. Fotokopi of husband passport, birth certificate.
g. Bring all above document to "Kantor catatan sipil"
We already complete above document today and submit to "Kantor Catatan Sipil" Sekupang and they said "If" all document "OK" will get "SURAT KETERANGAN NIKAH" by next Thursday or Friday.
After getting that document and new ID for my wife, we have to go to immigration office in Batam (Sumatra Building). There they will give us another Surat Permohonan Perpanjangan Kitas. With those document, my wife will go for the third time to Kanwil Office in Tanjungpinang.
We will update if we get another surprise before going to tanjungpinang.
Any thoughts?

BTW, our marriage certificate only stamped by dept. Agama since 4 years ago first time processing KITAS.
But anyways, I still short of one document need from HK "permission to marry Indonesian??". Which they ask for conversion to ITAP.
Since they said 5 weeks are not enough time to conversion. So we submit for extend the KITAS first and next date we went to catatan sipil register & stamp. The head of catatan sipil also confused.
Cause he mention only non-Islam marriage required to register there. I told him this maybe is the requirement for conversion to 5 years ITAP. Then he just ask his officer prepare, stamp and he sign it.
Also stamp with few more photo copieslucky we done that. The new head of Kantor Wilayah also ask for that...
And the lady officer also told us need the "permission to marry Indonesian" for conversion and she ask me is there are such document can be issued from my country? I think she also not sure.
I also don't think there is such document can be issued in HK. I will try other way, there is one so call "non-marriage record certificate" can be issued by HK immigration need 1 month to check the record.
It should be ready to collect by now.

i am concerned from Kanpie posting above that there may be additional requirements by KanIm and KanWil not asked for by either on the first application for Kitas such as the Surat Keterangan from Lurah, Catatan Sipil, Kua and the Certificate of Verification from the Embassy. May I say that was one reason in my mind that the Consulate would accept a legalised copy of the Buku Nikah which they did for processing a Passport for my baby Son in 2011 after his birth here.
I am nervous if they may ask for these documents on the first Kitas extension or are they asking for these additional documents only on the conversion from Kitas to Kitap? I have not registered Buku Nikah with Catatan Sipil because I understood Catatan Sipil and KUA are two separate government entities and so long as you are registered with one of them (the KUA in my case), then why would you need to register with Catatan Sipil?
Are Immigration visiting our homes only for the Kitap Conversion or for the Kitas Extension as well?
There might well be an additional set of steps (and cost as well) if that is indeed the case in order to be compliant with the requirements to avoid the problems Kanpie has highlighted.

I am just reflecting further on the recent postings by Kanpie. You seem the only person on this Forum who has been asked for these additional documents to complete the Kitas Extension and/or Kitap. Just wondering why nobody else has flagged it up.I shall enquire of my local KUA at Gunung Putri where I married last year about the Surat Keterangan Buku Nikah to take to Catatan Sipil. Shouldnt the Surat Keterangan be obtained from Kantor Lurah first? Do you have a sample available for us all of the Surat Keterangan which you presented to the Catatan Sipil for their endorsement? What fees were paid, if any, to KUA, Lurah and Catatan Sipil for this exercise?
Consular Registration of marriage appears to be a catch 22. Indonesian Admin might want it to dot the I and cross the T but our Consulates wont grant it, so we are stuffed on that one.Last edited by mrcibubur; 08-04-12, 21:36.

1. No, at first you have to get Surat Keterangan from KUA (image 1) and based on that letter you go to Kantor Lurah (image 2).
2. Yes, I have it zipped in attachment.
3. KUA and Kantor Lurah was IDR 100,000 and for Catatan Sipil we're still waiting the news, but according to Petugas it is between IDR 650,000 to 1,200,000.
