  • Harry - in your situation you won't need #8 &#9, assuming your wife can provide #7. Do a cover letter specifying "60 day SosBud Visa sponsored by Indonesian spouse". #12 means you must enter Indonesia within 90 days of date of issue of the SosBud visa. See you in the other place!

If your wife lives with you in Australia, and is your sponsor in RI, you may wish to check the archives on this forum.
There has been debate before if a sponsor can be resident outside RI.
I suggest, If she has a KTP, just make sure that Imigrasi don't suspect she doesn't actually live at that KTP address.

        3. Proof of a ticket in and out Indonesia, or a ticket to continue travel to another country.
        .....
        6. Letter of invitation from family or social organization, which describes the purpose of the visit and guaranteeing all transportation, living expenses that will incur, and responsible for the behavior during in Indonesia.
        .....
        8. Support letter from Australia (Company, University, Organisation, etc) stating who will cover all the expenses during your stay in Indonesia.
        9. Evidence of sufficient funds to stay in Indonesia (last 3 months bank statement with minimum balance AUD 600/week staying in Indonesia and details name ). Please note if you are to stay more than 5 months in Indonesia, you have to provide proof of regular income ...

This is the Visa I referred above . Required documents differ a little from one Embassy to another .

        3. See links below about ticket .
        6. Many Embassies accept a simpler letter of invitation . See link with a sample which you can add these other subjects in it .
        8. I suppose this is not applicable to your case
        9. Not required by many Embassies . Just put in the form , about : "intended stay days" : 60 days , and provide proof for these 60 days (investment balance , for example) . This is required by the Regulation (does not mention values) , but not when the sponsor is the Indonesian spouse .

        • Thank you for your replies Marcus, Davita and Mr Squiggle,.

My brain turns to porridge with the complexity of these matters which is ironic. Sponsoring my wife to Australia was much much more complicated with a folder almost two inches thick and much higher charges. These days it is extraordinarily difficult to actually speak to a human being in the Australian Immigration Department as it seems is the case with all bureaucracies and any large organizations. It seems the information technology era has spawned a commitment to total non personal contact with human beings.

Thanks again for your human responses.

          Yours tropically, Harry

Yes , countries (specifically the rich ones) don't want foreign people from poorer countries to "bother" them . People from poorer countries are only "welcomed" as tourists , if they prove they have money to spend (also as investors or if they are exceptional professionals) . I still remember when I requested a Tourist Visa to USA in their Embassy . The first question the American officer asked me was : "do you have a proof of financial capability ?" .

            • I had to provide my bank statement as proof of financial capability (account numbers blackened out) to the Indonesian Consulate to process my social visa application

I guess it is more because of reciprocity of treatment . Indonesian Embassies/Consulates in many other countries do not request it .

She , you , or anybody with a surat kuasa (maybe) may request it , probably , at Kantor Catatan Sipil (if easy , you can ask Kelurahan or Kecamatan first) . I suggest not ask specifically for the SKTT , but instead tell them you want to register your KITAS - this because usually they require 2 things : SKTT and "pindah datang" , and by reporting they know what is the necessary package . Below is an example of required documents , but each city may have a little different requirement . Better bring everything you have home [copy of wife's KK & KTP , Surat Domisili (may be a copy of the one you presented to get the kitas) , ..] .

                      • Hi all,

I got my wife sponsored Kitas Last month. Had no idea about having to report to Catatan Sipil after getting KITAS.
We are based in Bali. I thought it was all done and dusted when I picked up my passport from Immigration with the online stamp in it. I was aware that we had to report to local banjar where we were staying and I had an idea that foreigners also needed to report to a police office of some sort. When I was renting a Kos before, the landlord had to report to the Police office in Sanur area for some reason. I received STM and that was all I had to show the Pecalang in the area where I stayed when they did their rounds. Don't know of the landlord also registered my details with the local banjar. I was only on social visa then and was extending monthly. Been doing the social visa and business visa for years although not actually carrying out any business. The business visa was due to me entering every 3 weeks and due to the nature of my work in my home country. This was cheaper and easier than paying for visa on arrival which was using up the pages in my passport too quickly.
Anyway, when I picked up my passport after KITAS processing, I asked the immigration officer if I had to report to any other departments etc.., he said no, I was good to go. Obviously they are not very informative and there is no where on any KITAS application documentation or at the immigration offices that indicates we have to register with the Catatan Sipil also. It was only from coming across this forum and others that I learned of this, so thanks to all you contributors. Maybe applying through agents, they would have informed but if you are applying for the KITAS yourself like I did, no one in the immigration advised of Catatan Sipil registration requirements.
I applied for the KITAS online for wife sponsored KITAS. It wasn't actually that hard once we go all the proper info and advice. The initial process was a bit of messing around. I queried about the KITAS with local Jimbaran Immigration office, girl at the front desk said wife can sponsor me if using a KIPEM(she has Jakarta KTP). OK, so we sorted out the KIPEM with the local banjar where we were staying. After doing that, we approached the KITAS counter to progress, they said wife can't sponsor with KIPEM, new rule. I was so pissed off.
Girl at KITAS counter said must go to Jakarta and apply as wife is from there or alternatively apply online.
So I commenced with online application. Had some problems with that as there is 2 links for applying online and they are both for different visa's. One link is "Apply for Visa", the other one is
"Apply for visa approval". The former is not for KITAS. I was filling out the data which required my details and then when finished I was supposed to get an email for further instruction. I wasn't getting this and after back and forth emails for about 2 weeks and going back to immigration counter to complain, they said I must use the other link "apply for visa approval". Well nice of the website to clarify this.
Finally I was able to get the ball rolling, this link actually requires the majority of wifes(sponsors) details and my passport pages(all)
After uploading all the require documents, within a few days, I received the application number and then there was a request for payment. So on the website there is a link for payment online, Well guess what? The online payment was not set up yet. After inquiring at immigration office again and corresponding by email to Jakarta immigration office, they said that for payment, it has to be made in person. So WTF is online application for? I was so fuming.
Anyway as it turned out, wife and I were planning to visit her family in Jakarta so we would sort out the visa stuff while there. They only give a week to make payment before you have to re apply and upload all documents again, I went through this procedure 3 times before ready to go to Jakarta.
So we get on the early flight from Bali to Jakarta and were otw direct to Direktorat Jendral office for payment. While in the taxi and nearly at Kuningan, I thought I would recheck that we were going to the correct office as another friend said that he had to go to another office near Kemang or something like that. The staff who answered said we must do the KITAS at the immigration office where my wife's KTP is registered(Tempat domisili Sponsor). Damn. so we asked the taxi to turn us around and take us to wife's mums place which was in Tangerang. It was Thursday
and we had no time to go to Tangerang office. We went the next day and the staff at Tangerang office said we must pay for the telex visa at Direktorat Jendral in Kuningan first then process the KITAS at Tangerang once Visa stamp is in passport when I fly back to home country and process it at embassy. WTF, we were already almost at Kuningan office the previous day and they said go to Tangerang. There was a misunderstanding, I asked about KITAS payment, not Telex Visa payment, two different things. The telex visa is only Rp 100k.
So anyway, back to the Kuningan office on Monday, paid the telex visa fee, very next day received the telex in my email. It was very quick. So apart from the misinformation, the actual process was quite quick once procedure is followed correctly.
When receiving the telex visa, you have 60 days in which to fly out of country either to home country or Singapore etc. Apparently could have transferred from social visa to KITAS without leaving Indonesia but I was planning to fly back to home country anyway. When we flew back to Bali after a week in Jakarta with family and paying the telex visa fee, I decided to seek more info from Jimbaran immigration office. The guy said that they can process the KITAS with wife's KIPEM and I didn't have to process it in Tangerang. It's just the KITAP that needs the wife to have a Bali KTP. So I was relieved that we could finalise KITAS in Bali and not have to go to Jakarta again but annoyed that Jimbaran office didn't clarify this before, they were sending me on a wild goose chase, typical for here.
I flew back to home country, processed the KITAS visa and back to Bali, went to immigration office, supplied required documents again. KTP, KIPEM, Marriage certificate, sponsor letters etc.
paid the fee of Rp2,050, 000 (2 million and 50 thousand), picked up passport a week later.

                            (a) I don't know how much it is now , but in 2008 the fine was Rp100'000 per each late report . If you don't have income above the legal exemptions , you can request to inactivate it , so you don't need to present the annual report .

                            1. An ITAS/KITAS does not require it , if this is what you want to know . The need to get it depend on other facts .

                            2. The main purpose of having a tax number (NPWP) is to be able to pay owed Indonesian income tax (see below the Law explanation) . In the future , I guess , more and more institutions will start to require it for other reasons . For example , it may be required for buying house , cars , ... In my country it is mandatory for opening bank accounts . In Indonesia , recently , Bank Panin asked me to give a copy of my NPWP for opening an USD account .

                            • One must have an NPWP when earning above a certain amount of income whether it is an Indonesian or a foreigner. If the foreigner is on a working KITAS or KITAP, they will definitely require a NPWP for preparing their tax return every year.
