Re; post 1. post# 1623 and 2. post# 1624
1. I have no personal experience....I was only referring to another post in 'Indonesian tightens watch on Foreigners' post# 13 which said....
"There was an immigration raid in Blok M on Saturday night. Three friends of mine were picked up on the grounds that their KITAS' were copies, not the original, which their employers did not provide them with due to the cost replacements. They were held overnight, along with some 30 others. Their agents arrived on Sunday with their original KITAS' and their passports, which were confiscated because...erm...just because. They returned to the immigration office on Monday to be interviewed, after which they were told that they needed to wait for a decision from the boss about getting their documents back and to return today. They returned today and have been told that they must pay either a 25jt fine or spend 3 months in prison and be deported because...erm...just because."
2. I was having my Kitap info transferred to my new passport so they only sent back the original Kitap, issued last November, which is paper. In the past I have had a plastic Kitas.

Marcus,
Thank you for providing me with the information but do you have the immigration law(s) sections that I can show my wife that I do NOT need to leave Indonesia to obtain a KITAS while on a Social Visa. She believes what the local immigration officials told her that I must leave the country to obtain a Kitas after my social visa expires. She said the immigration laws do not explain any procedures for me to stay and convert my social visa to a KITAS. We will be going to immigration office in August to renew my social visa and I will show them what I have learned from here She said I will look stupid telling immigration that I do not need to leave Indonesia under a social visa and that I can covert it to a KITAS.

Don't let the Immigration officer feel ashamed if he/she doesn't know the rule . Or he/she may know the rule but suggests to do the other way (getting a VITAS) maybe because it means less work for them to do as the first check of the documents is done by Jakarta's Immigration office .
The Immigration process is named "Konversi Izin Kunjungan ke ITAS" (conversion of Visit Permit into a ITAS) .
Remember that the Sosbud/Family Visit Visa must be sponsored by the Indonesian spouse in order to convert it into a KITAS sponsored by the Indonesian spouse .

Good afternoon, Some while ago I copied all the information offering a step by step explanation of ..."
KITAS sponsored by an Indonesian wife of a foreign husband.
THIS POST HAS BEEN UPDATED IN APRIL 2009 AND JUNE 2010
Is this still the most relevant and accurate rundown on the process or have their been changes since then? My Indonesian wife and I are now living in Townsville and looking at moving to Indonesia some time in December and want to get started on the process as outlined with step 1.
1. The foreign husband get a Visa Kunjungan SosBud abroad, and get an Izin Kunjungan delivered for a first leg of 60 days at the port of entrance.
Trying to wade through the many posts on this is rather daunting so it would be most helpful to know if the advice from the earlier post is still viable.
Thanks in anticipation of your response or responses.
Yours tropically, Harry \opal

The basic things are the same :
- Get a (single entry) Social Cultural/Family Visit Visa (Sosbud Visa) sponsored by the Indonesian spouse ,
- Within the validity of the Visa/its extensions , convert the Sosbud into a ITAS/KITAS . The process needs approval of the city's Kantor Imigrasi , the Province's Kantor Wilayah , and the Jakarta's Directorate General .

Marcus,
My wife just copied this from the Indonesian Embassy web site in Australia. Is this the correct process?
Thanks. Harry

2. Two recent color Passport photographs.
3. Proof of a ticket in and out Indonesia, or a ticket to continue travel to another country.

Application from certain nationals also needs referral. See list of nationals for calling visa.
2. The Embassy will return the application, if there is still no approval after 6 (six) weeks since the date of receipt.
