Kris, if you search for KIPEM or KIPS in combination with KITAS, you should be able to find these posts about Bali's stance on the matter. I think the forum member 'Birdfamily' was one of those.

I don't know who in the forum has done a SosBud conversion in Medan. I guess someone like MrBule was on a working KITAS (which is almost automatically the VITAS route).
Thanks jstar—I'll check it out! It would save SOOOO much time and $$$ in plane flights!

Wonder if any of those members are?! Please contact me?!

And understand re: online system...too good to be true perhaps!
hmmm, looks like a lot of imigrasi have a new idea about this ''(immigration (who also say ONLY VITAS can be converted to KITAS—not SocBud!)...''Imigrasi Jember is giving me the same trouble! Yesterday I filled out the complaint section online from 'kantor wilayah hukum dan humas Surabaya'' , but guaranteed it will get me nowhere.. Also i think the online system you are referring to is the online pre-approval application for sending a telex to overseas embassy to obtain a VITAS (but you still have to produce your documents personally ((so I believe)), So really what's the point of applying online anyway?

• brodee - I forgot to ask earlier: If Jember say they don't do Sosbud to Kitas for residents of their catchment, then where do they advise such residents to get it done? At which KanIm? Or are they straight out saying there's no such thing as a conversion any more? They can't have it both ways.

what the boys at the front counter are saying is that their new boss (kepala kantor) has told them that in ''his wisdom'' it is better that you go overseas and obtain a VITAS. "it is easier that way''...thus,my 'permohonan' doesn't get past the front counter..I believe the only place I can do a conversion is at Jember which covers the Banyuwangi area...ps. I asked to see the boss and was told he wasn't there, I also asked for a written explanation or copy of their new rules and was refused..also my wife happened to speak with another guy (with 3 stripes, whatever that means in the hierachy ) and he said next time you extend your sosbud ''izin tinggal' the boss might ask you to show him the undang about alihstatus and you will be able to do it. we didn't see that officer last time!..going back on the 15th. for extension, will try again

• like I said before "it's easier for them (I suspect)" ... maybe if you tell them you like to do things the hard way because you're just that kinda guy .... sorry Brodee, I know it's not a laughing matter but sometimes ya just hafta.

• Good afternoon all,

Just want to check to see if I have this right or have got the wrong end of the stick.
Subject to complying with the various document and application requirements, If I am sponsored by my Indonesian wife for permanent residence then she need to show she has funds to support me and to an amount of about $2000 and I am not required to show evidence of personal income or savings. (I will take documents anyway.) Is this correct?

Yours tropically, Harry

• Eh, not really. Many never got this question for a KITAS. Now it seems there is an internal Imigrasi 'circulaire' which confirms the need for funds. (And there are estimates of 2.5juta per month.) A bit like sponsoring a foreigner on a SosBud.

But once again, we personally never got that question, nor did other people that I know. And the right to family reunion is very strong here.

NB: You mention permanent residency but in fact that is a KITAP. A KITAS is a temporary residence permit.

• Jstar,
Thanks for the correction. So,are there financial requirements for a Kitap as in my wife showing funds or my providing statements of income etc?

There were not any financial questions or a need to show anything to do with finance for me when I applied for both my wife sponsored KITAS and my wife sponsored KITAP last year.

I think the financial requirements may have been asked for in the past. These days the right to be together with your family is far more important in Indonesia and I would be surprised if someone was asked to show a bank statement or how much money they had when applying for a spouse sponsored KITAS/KITAP.

Although Imigrasi does have the right to ask for these things, I just can't see them wanting to get in the way of a husband and wife/family.

Also on a side note, my wife when she did work, was paid cash in hand from her mother's business, and did not use a bank account, so a bank account would not reflect how much money she earnt.

Hope for the best and expect the worst. We will have documentation just in case but it certainly makes the process simpler.

I also got KITAS and KITAP without showing anything related to our income . In this Forum I didn't see anybody mentioning that too .

• I have just renew my kitas ikut keluarga and we brought all the things they told me to bring but after that, this time they asked me something they didn´t before, the kartu domisili of my husband as well.
Usually they asked for my kartu domisili only, this time they asked for both, we paid 50.000 rp for each surat from the kepala desa (I am not sure if this is a normal price or not, we didn´t get any receipt and the funny thing is the first time my husband got the kartu domisili for me, they charged only 10.000 rp, when brought the documents to the inmigration office they told us something was wrong on the surat and we had to bring both kartu domisili, the one from my husband and another one from me so we had to come back to the kantor kepala desa, this second time when we asked for the surat domisili they asked for 50.000 rp each..............the lady said the first time the boy was wrong....As always has been so hard to know the prices exactly. I hate this feeling of not controlling how things are working, although in the other hand many things has been improving on the inmigration office expecially.

(1) Here in Bandung , they always asked me only my Surat Domisili (in my 3 KITAS + one KITAP processes) .

(2) Prices may be defined in the PERDA (Peraturan Daerah) or in the Peraturan Kota , or ... ou can also ask at your Kantor Catatan Sipil . Here in Bandung the Surat Domisili , SKTT , KK , KTP , ... are all free .

• I think the offices to ask for Surat domisili, SkTT, KK, KTP are different, at least the surat domisili is just on the kantor kepala desa and the other ones we have to go to the city to the Kantor Catatan Sipil.
I just got my kitas today and this time I got something I didn't get last year, I got a small card like a KTP attach to the passport with my photo, it is the kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas, They given me back the kartu biru which I guess doesn't have any use any more right?
