Forum offline

I received this at about 10:30am on Saturday according to the timestamp on the e-mail.

I got the email. Technical problem is rather generic. I suspect the usual DDoS.

Do you know that Kaskus used to be kaskus.com? They moved to kaskus.us because the notorious Brontok virus (originated from Indonesia) was set as a vehicle of DDoS against the .com. Imagine something as big as Kaskus went black.

I don't know much more than you guys about it. I've tried to log in friday night but could not upload any pages. I've received an email from wm and a reply to it from Ponyexpress informing me that I wasn't the only one in a similar situation and that Paman will get everything in order as soon as possible.
Then I've emailed to about 40 users I had the email address stored in my computer. Having no access to the server I wasn't able to inform more users.

Good thing is that everything ssems to be back to normal. I guess that wm will shime in to give more details.

I didnt care about the forum went off line, I knew it will be back again in a short time.

Hahaha... You know what, when I saw on my screen that you added a post to the thread a sixth sense told me that it was to note that you did not receive my email. Betul. Sumpah. I am not kidding you. I was sure about it before opening the thread.

Apologies for my ungalant attitude.

A quick explanation:
- I've used the list of users I am used to exchange emails with for any reasons.
- I've used the list of email of users I could retrieve from the reports made by users concerning offensive posts or spams posted on the board. When a post is reported by a user, it sends an email to mods saying "User XXX (mail to [email protected]) has reported this post: -followed by a link to the post-". I digged a few email addresses from these reports but I do not archives all reports. Just the one who generate a moderation sanction.

You were unfortunately not part of any of these two categories. You'd better start to email me some love letters...

Yes, site was offline ... some technical difficulties .. not a hacker attack by any definition.

Paman used the offline time to do some server maintenance.

It gave everyone a chance to experience "real life without the Forum" for a day/plus ... not a burden, I'm sure

Overall, we're pretty fortunate that Paman has set up a stable and secure environment for the forum to operate in .. so we don't experience these outages very often

We've got a software upgrade on the horizon .. not quite sure when we're going to get to it. But the forum will be offline for a day or two when that happens.

I wonder if this is just me or an aftermath of the forum downtime, but i haven't been able to use the 'what's new' feature (it would return a 'no matches found' result). Not sure how long this has been going on, since i was away from the forum for a few days and just noticed it today... Any thoughts, mods?

I've had no problems maybe it some setting on your computer. Can cookies effect that?
