Here's what I have sort of figured so far...
    Click the header topic "Forums"
once there , under it is
    a set of sub topics
    Forums Latest Activity My Subscriptions

Click latest activity, then refresh the page ...et voila I have something that was a whole lot easier before the change.

Any page clicked on to read- before reading it: refresh
Any messages showing up are lies, they are just notifications that someone commented on a post in a thread you happen to be subscribed to...
But you are not necessarily subscribed to any threads you have commented in... ya have to go and set your settings for that
Personal info in the settings might be set as visible to the world & his wife... be sure to go and check them in your settings menu - shows up when u click on your name at the top of the forum.

Oh & don't forget to refresh everything before you read it ... or you just get what you saw last time / last week// last month haha... on the plus side- ooooh yes there is one...
I am getting more of my life back.
I baked crumpets today and made a huge pan of celery soup.

I only keep popping back in here on the offchance I can find something akin to new / interesting comments and hopefully a new format hahaha

Hell a response from the "admin" on here would be useful or a response to the PM ... but I don't see many pigs flying around Java at the moment.

I now see taking a chance as hitting the post button & hoping that the lottery lets my post hit the page ...

That's pretty much the same drill I have been going through to get back to what was the starting point under the old version. This "improvement" seems to have been designed by the same people who manage Jakarta traffic.

I thought publicly challenging the administrators was an infractionable offense...standards must have changed since I was last infracted.

WM {You're right, he was infracted albeit with a delay.]

Same here...''''....Atlantis and his team of moderators have been wronged, no doubt, but the forum has rules...as I've been told many times including being banned for a period....for the same offense!

Standards have not changed, Davita. We just had a shitty software upgrade and, thanks God, this should not affect Standards. Well, this is of course as long as there are still Mods around which isn't the case here. Admins should however be able to (and anyway will have to, now) mod their forum if they wish to and I strongly encourage you to directly point them anything you construe as a breach of policy or a change in standards.

It seems that you may have missed the obvious. If it is the case, allow me to clarify it for you: unlike perhaps other users, should I be infracted or banned for whatever may be perceived as a breach of the Posting Guidelines, not only I would accept it, but, unlike perhaps some other users, I would not clutter the board and derail threads to moan about a sanction I have received.

In the past (2009) I have been infracted and banned for a breach of the forum policy. Did you read me contesting my infraction and ban on the board? Nope. I think I even applauded it (the fact that rules were enforced) at the time even though I never regretted to post what I posted. Did you read me bringing it on anytime someone had breached the forum policy? Nope.

As I hinted earlier in a post, I am 46 years old, meaning that, as most grown adult, the time I was kicking and rolling on the floor, moaning ad nauseum after being punished is well behind me.

Just for the record, as a mod of this forum, I never was really bothered by someone breaching our policy. I understand that this can happen. What however has always desperate me is the attitude of some people who, when caught "red handed" and explained that they had breach the forum policy, were unable to admit that they indeed do it and received a legit sanction for it, and who, sometimes, were ridiculously trying to denies it. I always have felt that it was really poorly reflecting on them.

I think the secret is to refresh the page after any & all actions...???........... or not???
For me, nothing changes in how I see your post, despite refreshing/getting logged out and coming back. Perhaps rather than showing me how many "likes" your post has, it's showing me that I have 1 option to "unlike" your post, now that I've "liked" it. Or something.

I clicked the like button on another one of your posts, and the same thing has happened - now I see an "unlike" (still the thumbs-up icon, though, not a thumbs-down) with a 1 next to it.

So, I guess - assuming that like/unlike is roughly analogous to pos rep/neg rep in the vBulletin4 version - there is no longer a restriction on giving a like/pos rep to the same person two times in a row.

As counter-intuitive as it all seems, maybe this would make sense if we weren't all operating on assumptions carried over from the previous software. However, if that's the only problem, then there should be a simple solution - which is to plan out the migration before it's done, including identifying the "how to" and "about this forum" instructions that need to be written and posted in order to help people start using the new system. For example, one thread should be "Changes to the reputation system in the new software."

As a former mod/active forum participant, I would have been willing to help prepare some of the posts/threads needed, if the switch-over had been handled differently.

(@Davita: if this post counts as breaking the Posting Guidelines and the admins want to moderate it, I am okay with that.)

Thank you Atlantis for your post about the standards being the same. I'm a little confused and should have said that the interpretation of standards (rules) by some moderators seems to have changed.

Davita - allow me to express more clearly what I think you are trying to say: "At least one moderator seems to be posting in breach of the Posting Guidelines by publicly challenging or belittling administrators or moderators (the words used in the PG). I want to highlight this and imply that they are hypocrites as I still resent being infracted in the past and want the opportunity to argue about it interminably."
I always thought that "publicly challenging ..." referred to decisions made in relation to breaches of PGs - perhaps in your attempts to denigrate us you might stretch the case to include the current circumstance. In any event I also have been infracted and temp banned whilst a moderator and just copped it sweet.

The new "like/unlike" feature sounds more like the one used on other social media like Facebook. If that's the case, then "unlike" would not be the same as a negative rep, just removing your "like". That's a pretty sizable change, and it really does deserve it's own how-to thread like you suggest. Pretty stupid change if you ask me because negative reps were really useful.

                        Exactly correct....there is hypocrisy abound!
In May last I wrote twice to Admin and three times to the Mod team about something I disagreed with and I did that according to the PG. I was ignored all five times...so what's new that the Mod team are miffed about being ignored by Admin...seems same frustrating principle to me.
I have no knowledge of what you or Atlantis did to be infracted or banned.....and for you to say 'just copped it sweet' shows your standards and why I challenged your interpretation of those rules and standards....but I did it according to PG.
Now that rule has been breached maybe others can have their say without deletion or nescience.

I think our erstwhile mods would welcome any backlash from the Admins, which would at least mean the OP had returned to this joke of a thread (it may as well be titled "Figure it out for yourselves and direct all constructive input up your own ass.") Since no infractions have been issued, it's fair to say that their grievances are justified and really only proves their point further.

BTW, has anyone received any sign of life from the Admins? A reply to a PM or anything?

No worries, Davita. I know you are confused.

Now, to be back on track I am "pleased" to report that the ignore function of this upgrade seems to be... not working. I've made some changes earlier today and it seems that it doesn't filter properly posts from selected users. How surprising.

I just "liked" your post (and another one of yours by accident!) for the simple reason that one so rarely sees the word "erstwhile" used correctly. Kudos!

Though we have received no sign of life of Paman, wm has given us what may be interpreted as a sign of life in a thread we started on July 5th in the mod channel after the implementation of that things called an upgrade. Not sure though, the pulse seemed to be still weak to my ears but I am no doctor.

It has been posted yesterday, July 9th.
Needless to say that it has been followed by an unanimous and immediate sigh of relief in the moderation room...
