  • Religious Conversion for Marriage

I'm certain that this particular question, or at least some variation of it, has been covered numerous times and at length, so if there's a link to an answer to my specific question please post it, if not all answers are greatly appreciated.

I'm a (lapsed) Catholic and my fiance is a KTP Protestant. We're getting married in Bali next year. Is a conversion necessary for one of us, or given that the ceremony is in Bali and they're both variants of Christianity, can filling out the paper work to ignore a slightly different disembodied voice be avoided?

    Cheers.

You will probably get away with the marriage part without any conversion.

However, you might run into problems when applying for a spouse KITAS. For example - When I applied for my KITAS my KanWil in Surabaya asked for a certificate to prove I was the same religion as my wife, which led to a wasted journey and more running around to get a certificate issued.

So, I would recommend you do some kind of conversion to Protestant before the marriage and ask for a certificate, that way you are covered for any problems later. I know it seems a little extreme, but religion is taken a lot more seriously in Indonesia than back in western countries where it is a more personal thing and we are never really asked about it.

No need any conversion as far as i know.
Conversion would be needed in case you are from a different religion (cristian and moslim for example). You are both christian, even a diffferent kind which has no problems with marriage.

Amazing to know that this kind of discrimination act is still happening in Indonesia.
