Agreed. And in this case ... no, the comments are not on the mark. t____c has made unsupported assumptions, to say the least. Without ever having met my pembantu, t___c is sure that my pembantu cannot be trusted to repay a loan; that my pembantu would leave without notice while owing me money if I dared to "make a fuss"; and that she and her family are all hypochondriacs.

Now, maybe t____c's predictions stem from the fact that t___c possesses a magical ability to divine the inner essence of my pembantu's soul. Personally, I think that "t___c is engaging in unsupported stereotyping" is a more likely explanation.

Regardless of the case, Puspa, I admire you for stil consistent in writing t___c nick as it is.

If I were you, probably I wont bother and just write it 'tc'.

There's this neat function in Windows, Alia, called Paste. Once you Copy it once, you can keep pasting it with nothing more than a Control-V stroke. You should try it...

I'm curious to see what happens when I follow up to ask for the kwitansi. Her embarrassed mumblings when she can't produce it will serve nicely as the "bukan anak kemarin" penalty.
    indeed.

If you trust your pembantu, that she will pay back the money and its don't bother you so much whether she's telling the truth or she's lying, then choice is yours... my pembantu is just like family to me, she's been with me for 8 years and honestly I trust her, I can rely on her more than my friends...and that's relief. She eat whatever we eat, she eat on our dining table (maybe not same time) there is no discrimination.
I taught her so many years no matter how hard, how embarrass for her to tell the truth..please do tell the truth, no matter what it is....that way there is no doubt in the mind.

I agree, stt. We treat our maid the same way and it would hurt my feelings if she felt like she had to lie to me to get a loan. I guess my gut-feeling is that we trust her implicitly and unconditionally-- lying, to me, feels like a pretty massive breach of that trust, regardless of the reason. (Embarrassment, fear, etc...)

It's one thing when I lend friends money-- I can't exactly control how they spend their money and if/when they pay me back. My maid, on the other hand, really has no choice but to pay me back. Once we set up a payment plan, I just deduct it from her salary. There's never a worry about repayment, since I consider it more of a payday advance than a loan. The only reason I'd deny her a loan would be if it was for an amount that was simply impossible for her to repay. And even then, if the reason was legit, I'd consider gifting it to her.

It's that exact reason that a lie-for-loan would bother me so much.

I learned from the past...when you thought someone is perfectly healthy, turned out the deadliest disease is all over the body.
