Nice try and the shop may be of use for mixers and so on but CD players are as out of fashion as wax drums.
It's all computers now. Easy to find tracks, far more reliable and so much easier to carry around.
My DJ life started out with turntables and a tape deck but ended with a laptop. Less chance of a hernia than dragging all that crap about
If a place has a sound system installed I can walk in with a small bag and set up in minutes.

Well, yes and no. You are right that alot of stuff can be done via pc and if you are just looking to play one song after another, then a pc will do fine. It can also be synchorised so that the beats flow from one song to another. the problem occurs when you want to do anything more than that (most people dont so pc is all they need). If you want to create effects, loops or scratch then you need a cd player. The players now can be hooked up direct to a pc or usb and can be used as controllers to manipulate the music. You might never need to play a cd on them but they are really useful, make that essential for serious dj-ing.

Just for info, there is a serious shortage of good quality dj stuff in Jakarta. Even Pioneer seem to have hardly anything in stock. A trip to the Pioneer HQ in Cideng is also a waste of time as they don't have a show-room, it is just an office (as I discovered after driving for one and a half hours to find the place!!). Always ring ahead, that is my new motto!!

You've not been looking at the latest software. That stuff with the controller does everything a CD or a record can and more. The software you have is quite an old version but still works great for a pub DJ but you should see the new stuff.

OK guys, If I wanted a simple set up on PC for my home bar, what SW would you recomend (I am sure it will not tax the Tannoy speakers or use them to the fullest but never mind)
Also any recomendadtions for free downloads on 70s 80s 90s music ?

As well as tapping up Fred for his mountain of music, you can also download stuff a song at a time for free from Youtube using www.video2mp3.net

I use this for finding unusual mixes of records.Basically type in the title of the song you like on Youtube. Then copy the url into the above link then download. You need a decent broadband connection though otherwise it can take ages to copy a song. it usualy takes 2-3 minutes per 4 minute song.
