After many agonizing attempts trying to get dual citizenship status for my three children, we have finally succeeded. I am British and my wife Indonesian. The children were all born in Indonesia We are now living in Brunei where I will be working until 2011. My wife and children fly back home to Jakarta regularly as we still have a home there. I would like to know if my children still need a visa to enter the country even though they hold two passports.

    Hi there,

Did you and your wife apply for Indo passports? If you did then you just use your Indonesian passport and no need to use the UK ones.

If you haven't apply for Indo passport they will have to enter the country using their British passport and yes they will need visa.
If this is the case I would suggest you check it out with the Indonesian Embassy in Brunei to see if you could apply for the children's passports there. Theoretically you should be able to.

My British passport has a work visa attached and my wife and children have dependent stamps in their passports. All three children have two passports. We got the Indonesian passports here in Brunei, but are unsure whether visas are still required. The consulate in Brunei haven`t been able to offer much information. It seems no one really knows

I am almost sure there is no need to get an Indonesian visa if the children use their Indonesian passports . I am thinking if an authorization letter for traveling without the father is required as Indonesia seems to consider the father more than the mother.

Children should have received some form of 'Citizen Card" when their applications for dual citizenship were approved.

These double as "Visas" so they can still exit and enter Indo on their british passports irrespective of which parent is travelling with them.

They do not really need Indo passports.

I didn't understand this subject , but it seems there are other things to do to fully complete the children documents . This is a Google translation of a comment found here : :http://www.hukumonline.com/berita/ba...sih-dikeluhkan
After getting a description Affidavit, free KITAS and free from immigration until the age of 18 years. SK citizen child must be brought to the civil registry (if the birth in Indonesia) with a birth certificate to be given marginal notes (in deed tersebu child). Because the child of a mixed marriage certificates prior to 2006 was its status as a foreign national children (from the mother citizen and foreign national father), still follows the old Citizenship Act. To that end, will be given a marginal note that the children now have dual citizenchip.
Such data will be used in the administration of residence (Adminduk) as the recording of citizenship in the Indonesian population data. From there, I'll just put into families, that child has become a citizen. To get the marginal notes, must take his mother's birth certificate and ID card, then will be entered in KK, Marcellina warned.

    To the OP:
    1. Your kids are now full citizen of the Republic of Indonesia. Therefore, beside there Paspor RI, they don't need any visa to enter Indonesia. Their dual citizenship does not interfere with their Indonesian citizenship. It is a bonus, not something stigmatizing them as half citizen. They have the exact same right and duties than any pribumi.
    2. As per post #5, a passport is not absolutely necessary for kids born from a mixed marriage. An affidavit attached to the foreign passport would also do. However, I have myself prefered the solution of both an affidavit and a paspor RI. Only one, out of 3, of my kids have a french passport. I have them using a paspor RI and a visa schengen to visit Europe when the need arises.
    3. Once a kid born prior to August 1st, 2006 got his dual citizenship recognised, one should go to the CaPil to have the akta kelahiran (if the kid was born in Indonesia) amended or reissued. I've in the past written a post about it. I had a kutipan kedua issued by my CaPil for my second kid a couple of years ago. They've changed his akta kelahiran "warga negara perancis" to a normal akta kelahiran "WNI". An easy procedure.
