I read in newspaper today:
'Di Pasuruan 21 orang meninggal dunia saat berebut zakat'

I've been living in Indonesia for 4 years but I never stayed in a 'desa' for more than 2 weeks. And after I read this news, I suddenly realized that there are so many Indonesian people out there who think that $4 is much more important than their lives.
This is very sad

And I'm picturing myself in their shoes and still cannot... I really don't know what to say...

spare your money and give to them ... and active in social activities ... it will help them so much ...

thank you bakiak for caring people in my country so much ...

they are not thinking to make an exchange between life with $4 though ... they just need the money for the living ... and it is really wrong that zakat become "rebutan" ... hmm ... i will read about it ...

zakat is one obligation that must be fulfilled by a rich muslim (meaning that he/she able to feed himself or herself and have another to give it to others). It could be money, kurma, rice and so on. depend of what kind of zakat.

zakat must be given to 7 kind person that already stated in Islam Book Rules (aka AlQuran) and it is included poor people.

I've looked at the BBC World news ...incredible...there you are...we are moaning about which brand of hand bags to buy and yet people dying for $4...it is really sad to see how the other halves live.

It's all about face, rich people handing out 40,000rp, but in the most public way possible. It's not the most attractive aspect of Indonesian life.

we have to be more careful. the intention was excellent, help people out of hunger (perhaps) however, one negligent might take ones live in jeopardy. criminal law awaits.
