I passed through on my way to Bengkulu in 2008. In terms of traffic and population density, it might as well be Java. Not to mention, of course, the prevalance of wong jowo and kampung jawa. Once you cross over the Bukit Barisan and drop to the Indian Ocean coast, it´s a different world altogether.
