Sorry, i have no idea but I would treading with caution. take care.
I am currently working on a 3 year old case for an upcoming blog post regarding police corruption in Kalimantan and have a few simple questions for those of you who have been in Indonesia for a while.
1 Where do people report corruption of a city police department?
2 What advice would you give foreign business men in general regarding corruption?
3 Which if any organization exists in Indonesia to protect foreign business men and investors from losing their assets in case of corruption.
Thank you in advance.
Mike

i don't think reporting local/city police corruption to local police office is wise.
Jalur 259 (http://www.jalur259.com/) is a commission reporting directly to president dealing with cases against police department. i think they have a weekly live show in a local tv station exposing police corruption, etc
Thank you to both. Has anybody here successfully beat corruption without giving in? If so, please give advice.
Mike, you made me laught. It's funny response but very serious questions. Everyone is corrupted but different level of how bad it is. Whenever I come back to Indonesia, I have tummy ache always awaiting for immigration officers. I don't do wrong but somehow the officer always ask me money or things. It's general acceptable for so many people who live here. Maybe in US, it's so outrages but some of gov. officials in US are corrupted but in different ways. The caucasions are doing it very smart and delicate but the Indonesia is a bit crude. But it's easier dealing with Indonesian since there are no law. I am aware that there is law but general is ok to bribe official. Foreign companies such as Freeport, the company in the past bribed the Suharto's and his clans. Nothing to be ashamed but that's how it's when you are doing business with 3rd world country. Corruption is part of the power struggle. My husband said it made life easier, don't think about morality.
if my memory serves correctly, i remember a case where a man jailed without proper trial (he was not given access to lawyer at courts). now he's a free man.
there are many cases still in progress.
but give it a chance, i think this is something good
Mirandagee, you are correct about the level of corruption that exists in Indonesia. However, Indonesia is still a very young democracy. If Indonesians let corruption grow to levels of other countries with older institutions (democratic and not so democratic ones...) it'll be just a matter of time for even human life to have a price.
My country of birth is making an enormous effort to fight the corruption that has brought this country to the brink of war-like collapse. This effort is making progress but has required a long time and high cost to society. Indonesia is still in time to not have to make such a sacrifice.
I agree with this answer or you might find out first hand. ...Sorry, i have no idea but I would treading with caution. take care. ...do you have a lot of time and bribe money saved up?
this is very corrupt but I guess common here the officer always ask me money or things... only in a third world country would it be acceptable It's general acceptable for so many people who live here. without law there will be no stability here... But it's easier dealing with Indonesian since there are no law. I am aware that there is law but general is ok to bribe official. oking to bribe is agreeing it is ok to be corrupt. Nothing to be ashamed but that's how it's when you are doing business with 3rd world country.yes it is shameful to have to bribe. I hope someday RI can be a free country, so much corruption, so little freedom.
