Heading to Jakarta soon with our 8 week old baby. Are things like cots, change tables, prams etc easily available to purchase in Jakarta?
Also are there any mothers/baby groups for expats? - mainly like to join one as a way to meet other mums.

Hi,
Like the others said you can get EVERYTHING in jakarta for a baby. Mothercare has opened in Jakarta so even previously hard to find items are now readily available.
ELC from the UK has recently opened in Jakarta and they have really good quality educational toys and some great outdoor toys, water slides etc. They have just opened in Pacific place but have plans to open in other malls.
There is also a Parent Teacher Store that specialises in educational toys. They are in Wisma GEHA near Sarinah Thamrin but also have a website: www.tokokaleidoscope.com . They have some really fun stuff
For playgroups and the chance to meet other mums, it depends where you will be living. In South Jakarta ANZA has a playgroup every Thursday morning, they also have a coffee morning on Friday's that is attended by mum's with babies. (ANZA is on this website)
In Pulomas, (the corner where east, north and central jakarta meet) there is a saturday morning playgroup on the grounds of Pulomas Prep (4788 1806), it is run like an Australian playgroup.

and once your baby is slightly older there is many good brand of baby and children's clothing such as Osh Kosh in all the major department malls. (generally cheaper than what you would pay back home)
Thanks so much for all that information. Im much more relaxed now about coming over - I wont have to lug as much stuff over as I thought i would have to.
For Treesyu - Im Australian, living in Perth at the moment.
^i think there are australian mommy groups here just ask around with your fellow australians.but you can also find other expat moms in schools usually they would have their weekly activities depending on their interests - shopping, sports, yoga, prayer groups, cooking, and the like.
Actually there is an article in today's jakarta post regarding shops that rent baby supplies. Cribs, Strollers, car seats etc. about 25,000 Rupiah to 90,000 rupiah p/m. (less than $10)
Baby's World in Depok and Bambino Piccolo in Tebet, South Jakarta ( and apparently online)
