Jl. Wahid Hasyim, Kebun Sirih, and Agus Salim as well as the infamous Jl. Jaksa and the Sarinah mall are all within walking distance to the south...The restaurant Ocha & Bella at the Hotel Morrissey on Wahid Hasyim is nice.
I notice that visa applicants have to wait outside the gate until their time of appointment, some arrived hours early because they are afraid of being late (due to Jakarta's unpredictable traffic). Is there a place where they can hangout nearby and walk to the embassy within minutes? I guess it is also safer than standing & waiting outside the gates. Thanks for any response.

Many thanks Hombre, appreciate it. No idea of Hotel Morrissey's location from the US Embassy (we are not from Jakarta), but no problem, I can goggle for it. My wife is Indonesian, so walking distance for her is no more than 200 meters. But she can walk much further if she is in another country lol. Thanks again.
or you can also visit aryaduta hotel . ....
dont judge a book by its movie.
If you're cheap and averse to long walks, there's Stasiun Gambir. The place got fast food restaurants you can sit in, and it's about 400m to the embassy on foot.
The guy previously known as Injun.
There's Monas, too, if you want to stare at an obelisk.

at least you can still actually apply for your american visa from the embassy instead of the process being farmed out to a money grabbing contractor like the british embassy
Actually, the US gov't has changed the rules for getting a visa - a lot of people, according to what I read, will now have to apply for a visa by mail, except for specific emergencies. The reasons given by the agency that actually is responsible for visas is clearly doing it to save money and, while they claim it'll speed up the process it will, in reality, probably make things worse.

Back to the main topic, though. My mom goes to Gambir every couple of months and she said recently they've been doing renovations there. Also, prices tend to be a bit higher there, and most of the food isn't much to speak of.
Sul1995, are you aware that the US Embassy doesn't accept US money?

How long are you able to stay in the U.S. without renewing your visa in country or leaving the country?
