Recommend Honest and hardworking gardener

As my family will be leaving Jakarta in December, sadly, my very honest and hardworking gardener, Pak Mamat will be jobless.


Pak Mamat has been working with us for a few months and within these few months, he managed to convert my thrashy garden to a beautiful and tidy one. My garden was poorly maintained by the previous tenant with grass drying out and all brown, weeds everywhere and my heliconias reduced to dull leaves. Within 2 weeks, Pak Mamat revived the grass patch, without the need to replanting them. My heliconias are flowering prettily and no more weeds found!


Pak Mamat also doubles up as a pool maintenance guy who knows how to test the pool water with test kit and add appropriate amount of chlorine tablets. He has the initiative to purchase the tablets and test kit. As the test kit which I bought was used only for two months, I am giving it to him for his next job.


Pak Mamat is very hardworking who can't seem to be able to sit still. When he is done with the pool and garden chores, he helps clean the windows, and fix things around the house, all on his own will accord. His working hours are from 8am-12noon, Monday to Friday but he reports to work without fail at 7am and start working right after. I am paying him 1 million rupiah every month for his excellent work, paying him on the 15th and end of month every time.


I am very sad to leave Pak Mamat as he is very honest (never once he tried to cheat or ask for more money), hardworking, knowledgeable, courteous and respectful person.

Hi everyone,

Pak Mamat told me this morning that he received many job offers, which he is very thankful. I am willing to let him go earlier if he can find another job which fits his schedule. However, being the ever honest and professional Pak Mamat, he refused to leave for another job early and insisted to work for my family till mid December after we leave Jakarta. He still insisted even with my assurance that it is ok.

I do not wish him to miss work opportunities because of me but if you are really looking for a gardener, Pak Mamat is worth waiting for till Dec. Otherwise, he is available for work now from Monday - Friday 12 noon till 4pm since he works for me from 7-11am mon-fri.

Hi everyone,

finally the day has arrived for my family and I to leave jakarta and head back to Singapore. I really need to thank this forum for keeping me sane during my stay here, as well as helping me tons with the selling of my stuff.

to update on Pak Mamat's work performance, he has consistently and conscientiously did his work till today, our last day in jakarta. My words do not do him any justice as he is a real gem. My family and I feel safe with him as a gardener, jaga and pool man.

He mentioned that he was contacted for job offers but turned down a number of them as he wishes to work for us till our last day in jakarta, I felt very bad to have hindered his next job but now that we are leaving, please do contact him directly if you are looking for a gardener/jaga/poolman. Pak Mamat is definitely the dependable man you can trust if hardworking and honest are the traits you are looking for in a household staff.
