Thanks for adding this puspawarna. I think one cannot know enough about HIV and AIDS, the modes of transmission and non-transmission. Especially because the epidemic is on the rise in Indonesia and spreading to the heterosexual population as well. Knowledge about the virus is overall low and too many non-evidence based stories wonder around in society. I am currently conducting research on HIV knowledge levels and I am stunned by the many misconceptions.

Yes, spiritia has the best info so far available in both English and Indonesia. Their 'numbers' are not always correct though.

Try http://www.avert.org/aids-asia.htm AND http://www.aidsindonesia.or.id/ for even more info.

HI Sari. I have to correct you here. Incubation period for AIDS (not HIV) is 5 to 15 years. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that causes the accumulation of illnesses named AIDS which stands for: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

Saying this, you never know what happened in the meantime since wild escapades. How sure can you be your partner stayed faithful? I have seen too many women (and their children) with HIV who assumed that their partner (who died already by then) was without escapades.. Painful but true. What a world..

she isnt getting any better but still remains in good spirits - she seems to have accepted that she will die sooner or later and is powerless to stop it we are going to take her to lombok as she requested over christmas. It will be our last time together i think. She has had the kds tested but as yet i havent been privy to the information on the results.

Sorry to read this about your friend Scoots... it's never easy to see someone you care about suffering.

Edit: just in case there should be any misunderstanding... there was absolutely no sarcasm or other negative thought coming from me here... ScooterIndo and I had a little dustup on another thread (where I probably overreacted a smidge), and I disagree with a number of things he has said, but I respect his opinions and I think he is a decent bloke.

just to update this thread - today (1 day after world aids day) i went to Mombasa Hospital and was tested for HIV AIDS - I am HIV Negative.

Whilst it took a lot of courage to actualy go and waiting for the results was a little nerve wracking the whole experience was very well conducted and i had the results within 20 minutes. I am now back to year zero as it were, which whilst i didnt really doubt but it is a weight off my mind and clears up any doubt i (or anyone else) may have had. Thanks for all the support i got regarding this issue from forum members via PM.

Good news scooter........ if anyone is interested in reading a very good book on HIV/AIDS it is called Are you Positive and The Aids Trial. It is available free as an ebook from this website http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/25958. One of the best books I have read in a very long time.

Just for the record the HIV test does not test for the HIV virus it tests for HIV antibodies (there is no know test to test for the HIV virus).

    Hi Scooter...

I was 18 when I thought I could have HIV... and same as you in the beginning of this thread, I thought it would be better not to be sure, and just to hope the best... When I became 20 the mother of my girlfriend in that time, wanted to see a test, before she allowed me to stay over in her house.

I remember the day when I had to pick up the result...
I was actually really thinking to drive against a wall, only to prevent a positive result...

I remember how I got to the reception, and how I whispered to the nurse that I wanted to collect the result. She asked me 3 times what I want because she couldn't understand me... till I almost scream at her: "I'm her for the AIDS test result!!!"

I remember how she looked in her computer, and how she only said: "That you better discuss with the doctor..."

I was 100000 percent sure that this only could meant 'POSITIVE', and to wait to get into the doctor room, felt like hours...

When I was sitting in front of the doc, he asked what I was thinking what the result might be... I couldn't say a word... I was so damn down...

Till he said... of course you are negative...

And actually... with this result in my hand, it was the first time in my life that I was aware that I might have a future...

So this day became one of the best of my life... (especially the night )

After that day... safety first... even if I was drunken like hell... I don't want to get into a situation like this again... with my wife 2 years ago we did testings together...
