Here's one from the book I am currently reading. Its not famous, but it does have relevance to life in Indonesia.

"Being seen and especially being heard, were not part of [our motorcycle riding] equation. That's because we were't insecure narcissistic poseur douchebags. You fucksticks that pull the baffles out of your Harley exhaust so that people in surrounding neighborhoods, countries, and the unborn can celebrate the arrival of your preening ass and the Harley Softail its perched on rank just beneath pedophile clown and Nazi prison guard on the cosmic cocksucker list."

Haha... it is most certainly relevant to life in Medan, I'll vouch for that... I'd guess it might be from HELL'S ANGELS by Hunter Thompson, but then it would be at least somewhat famous... ?

Anyway, reminds me of this (no offense intended to anybody)

i-man, you may not have read his books but you have probably seen a few adapted to movies: BLADE RUNNER, MINORITYREPORT, TOTAL RECALL, A SCANNER DARKLY and several others... Caution: If you are looking for really great writing, you won't find it in his books - he's more of an "idea man". I always thought that KV's character Kilgore Trout was based on Phil, but it turned out to be Ted Sturgeon (duh). Anywho any of the above would be fine or you can try THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM... his mostly autobio novel VALIS is quite interesting too.

    from Wiki:

In addition to 44 published novels,[10] Dick wrote approximately 121 short stories, most of which appeared in science fiction magazines during his lifetime.[11] Although Dick spent most of his career as a writer in near-poverty,[12] ten popular films based on his works have been produced, including Blade Runner, Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Paycheck, Next, Screamers, and The Adjustment Bureau. In 2005, Time magazine named Ubik one of the one hundred greatest English-language novels published since 1923.[13] In 2007, Dick became the first science fiction writer to be included in The Library of America series

The book is Not Taco Bell Material by Adam Carolla. Carolla, was the co-host of the Man Show -- irreverently funny, but now defunct. The book is his story of coming of age in working class Southern California during the 1980's. Funny stuff.

thanks mister b-shall certainly check him out. was/am a sci-fi fan-bradbury,clarke & classic john wyndham ('the day of the triffids' & 'the kraken wakes')-great writing is not an issue with a good sf yarn. in the meantime folks, which acclaimed novel begins with the lines "I went out to see my Father in Rego Park.I hadn't seen him in a long time-we weren't that close"

I do not know the name of the book, but on a flying leap o' faith I'm gonna guess, is it from a novel by John Cheever?
