    Default New to Bogor/Jakarta Selatan

    Hi everyone,

I'm a biology Ph.D. candidate in Indonesia for the next 9 months on a research fellowship from the US (but originally, I'm from Hong Kong). I moved to Jakarta about 3 weeks ago and am staying in Kemang until early November to finish processing some paperwork for my research before moving further away from Jakarta (probably closer to Bogor) because I will be a visiting researcher at UI Depok. During the course of the year, I'll mostly be traveling around the entire archipelago for my research, so I'm not really sure what there is to do when I'm actually in a city for a long period of time. I've just started some language learning but if any one can give me any suggestions as to things to do around here that would be great. I have a tendency to just work all day if I don't get someone to drag me out to see the sights...

Hope to hear from everyone soon!

    Susan

Welcome to the forum Susan. I was in a condition similar to yours a couple of months back. Being in a foreign land can be a little unnerving. To your advantage, people here are very warm and welcoming. Language might be a barrier but that should not be that big an issue.
Take some time to read a bit on this forum. There are various activities which happen all over the city. I'm sure you'll find something of your liking.
    Good luck!

If you can share about hobbies or activities that you like, it may be easier for the members of this forum to give suggestions according to what you expect
