Default Where to sell engament ring

    Hello everyone !

It has been 2 years i broke up with my ex fiance and been keeping the ring. And right now i think it's the time for me to completely move on.

So i'm thinking to sell my engagement ring. But the problem is i dont know a place to sell which will give me a good price. Ex bought it from US, 14 carat with princess cut diamond ring, that time bought it 2,500 USD. I have been to one jewelry shop and the shop lady gave the price of my ring 500 USD, with the reasons because i don't have the certificate/ letter and also it's not good enough quality (maybe she meant about the carat) compare to Indo gold quality. And since she gave me the crappy price, i surely said no.

It would be great if i could have some recommendations from this forum where to sell my ring. And hope i could hear some inputs from u guys

    Thank u ^_^

Are you sure it's not 1.4 carat?

I think she's talking about the gold being 14carat. A 1.4 carat diamond ring at $2.5k would have been a bargain.

In Indonesia they don't really like the lower (14-18) carat gold which is mostly used in the west. And without a certificate it's not so easy to determine the diamond, is it a 'dove egg'?

Something else; there have been law suits in which the girl was sentenced to return the engagement ring. On the other hand, the historic reason for a valuable ring was to have a kind of 'deposit' as compensation when things went wrong. Of course it depends on the circumstances of the break-up...

Ah, I guess you're right. I immediately assumed she was describing the diamond (cut and carat).

Wow, I would be soooo angry. No, those law suits were about break-ups before the marriage.

For selling jewelry: you get rather good prices in Singapore (Chinatown) and Hong Kong/Macao. But I would try to contact the original store in the US (for certificate etc.).

Yes, we suppose to return our rings to each other (I gave him a custom made ring). But our break up wasn't a good one, and we haven't talked since. For me keeping the ring which i'm not wearing it, and i even never looked at it not until last week is somehow backing me off from moving on. It has been 2 years, and i think i have enough , so i decided to sell it and use the money to have vacation and let go my past.

Bit sad really, A friend when the engagement ring was returned to him decided to sell it at the local Pawn shop, the old gentle offered him 30 shillings, my friend told him it cost 10 pounds, a lot of money then, the chap said "just look in my window, its full of Engagement rings"

@ Sparkling : try Toko mas Senang Hati. Proyek Pasar Palmerah.
a local jewellery shop but highly recommended from my side.
I knew this shop from "Mbak Sum" - my domestic staff. long times back, she was working for germany lady and this lady has same story as yours and this "mbak" accompanied her to sell her wedding ring to "Senang Hati".
and 1 week ago I went there, they gave me a fair price for my uncertified gold necklace. 70%/22K for 260 IDR.
