    Default Advice please!!

    Hello to all,
We are moving to indonesia in late may and i dont want to give away my TV.
Its a 46' SONY BRAVIA XBR2. We paid $3400 2 years ago but i think retail is arround 2500 now. I called a freight forwarder here and i can have it delivered by air to Surabaya for $600 but they dont deal with custom brokerage in Indonesia. My delema is if its worth to bring this TV or should i just get another upon arrival. My wife asked her parents to find out what the retail is in Surabaya and they couldn't find this model there. My wife is scared about dealing with customs in Indonesia and shes afraid that we are gonna get rip off. Could someone give me an advise on what to do. and do you know any decent custom broker we can talk to?. Also I'd like to consider the idea of just getting another TV there. how much can i expect to pay for a 46 to 46 inch good resolution TV?
    thank you

Hi, IMHO, I would sell your current one on ebay, and buy another one here.

Saves you all the hassle your wife is rightly worried about.

I'm not too sure on prices, but they should be similar, if not less than stateside.

I'm already hesitating about moving my 42-incher from Jakarta to Bali, and you are bringing one from overseas?! Leave it at home.

I'm not sure that the TV system in Indonesia (PAL... 250volts and 50hertz) is even compatible with other countries.
    Anyone else can comment?

IMHO it's is the other way around. Not to sure if US TV systems (NTSC, 110v) is compatible in other countries.

AFAIK, most countries now have PAL&220v.

Jwalher1, perhaps you should consider buying Mauricio's 42 incher. I think its for sale, or was a while back.

I just returned from Carrefour Supermarket . The biggest size available was 42 inches and no Sony . LG (2 models) , one for Rp16 m.(USD1,480) and the other for Rp20 m.(USD1,850) , and Toshiba's Rp18 m (USD1,670) , non-discounted prices . In electronic stores (in which there were Sony and many more brands) I have seen same brands but different prices mainly due to the contrast ratio . The 2 LG above , the most expensive was stated to be 1:50,000 (no info for the other). Lately the prices have been coming down very quickly , and many discount promotions also . I also would not recommend you to bring your tv , but if you still decide to do so , be sure it is compatible with the Indonesia's PAL B TV color system as I already looked for a PAL B to NTSC (supposing you are in USA) converter in Bandung and didn't find it .
