The 'fantasy'? Many proven cases of women having children to gain public benefits already exist in the states. This type of thought simply has the potential to make national health insurance abuse worse. Assuming abuse won't be rampant when we have every indication that it is already a major issue is what's silly and naive.

Howie - "many proven cases". Again do the research and the reading to see the actual makeup of sole parent families. You'll find that the vast majority are NOT young single mums out to get pregnant and live off the state. In fact some (and their children) are the victims of MEN - surprising innit!

"many proven cases" is far from me saying "majority". I actually support welfare programs to help those who can't help themselves. I also believe that programs that are too liberal in nature have a strong impact in creating abuse.
Case in point would be the extension of unemployment benefits in the US. Even Harvard estimated had the benefits not been extended unemployment rates would have been about 30% lower than where they peaked.

If you are British and have a house in UK and it's available for your use, you may be considered 'Resident for Tax Purpose in UK, no matter where you live.

I filled in all the tax forms when I left, I am non resident. As long as I spend less than 90 days a year in the country I am non resident.

THe house used to be available, however since my divorce it is not available to me.

Agreed Jim69.... then you are in the clear....I just wanted to clarify that point of owning available accommodation, if others were unclear.

@Hombre....USA and UK/AUS/Canada differ in tax law regarding residency status...Americans, imo, get shafted but their tax rate is not so onerous.

In the United States federal taxes are separate and distinct from Social Security and Medicare taxes.

Just a snapshot of how entwined this issue can become.
