Thread: Abortion

OK...so how can you get an abortion, in Indonesia or in a country nearby?

I know that they are illegal here, so perhaps people go to Singapore?

But they have a law that says, you must be
    a. married to a singaporean to have one
    b. Have a residency permit
    c. lived there for at least 4 months.

Don't reply if you just want to air your views on the rights or wrongs of abortion, or responsible sex.

A serious question and I am asking on behalf of a friend, cos forums are not always that anonymous.

She could go back to own country (UK) but then quite far, expensive and inconvenient for a simple procedure.

    Any info. what about perth?

found out it ok and legal , but what about as a tourist..could not find anything about that.

I believe doing so in Perth should be fairly easy as long as the pregnancy is less than 20 weeks. Abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy is forbidden in Western Australia unless there are specific medical conditions.

I would recommend your friend to contact the hospitals directly and ask questions on feasability. For women health, recommended hospitals are Kind Edwards Hospital and Mercy Hospital.

In most nearby countries it's illegal, incl. Thailand and the Philippines. And others make it very difficult (e.g. Taiwan, South Korea).

Another possibility is the medication RU486, mifepristone (e.g. Mifeprex). There is an organization which helps women who live in countries that don't allow abortion, obtaining those pills. http://www.womenonweb.org/article-174-en.html

Here is more explanation on the procedure and consequences:

Of course this is no medical advice nor am I endorsing anything or giving an opinion, just pointing out an option.

Can I suggest Hong Kong as the best place (In Asia) to have an abortion. When I lived there it was a common practice in a hospital setting; but done by a contracted specialist doctor.

As a bule she can get it done easily in Jakarta as we all know money takes precidence over morals and the retarded law here.
Get her to go to RS medistra (between Rasuna Said and Pancoran on Gato Subroto) and speak to the gynocologist doctor there.
Dont rock up asking for an abortion go softly softly and get a pregnancy test first - act all shocked when they give the result and then explain you dont want it and what can be done - they will offer her the chance to get an abortion cost was about 4 million Rupiah.

Note: i am talking from experience from 1998 so prices would have changed. Good luck.

Yeesh, Rp 4 million was a lot of money in 1998. Today that would probably translate to Rp 20 million.

Thanks for those replies...don't think she thought of doing it here. But I will tell her to try first...then other options.
and if indeed the 4mill, has gone up to 20mill, she may as well spend the money on an airfare to UK, and have it done for free, whilst having a holiday!

MOD NOTE: More off-topic responses have been deleted. If people wish to debate the ethics of abortion, please do so in a separate thread. The OP specifically asked for factual information and suggestions. If you are unable to provide that, there are many other threads you can spend your time in. If the off-topic posts continue, this thread will be locked and people who are answering the OP will be directed to do so by PM. (And while I'm sure none of our forum members would be so impolite as to send off-topic responses by PM, let me state for the record that if you do so you will be risking an infraction)
