Nice catch! When I look at the pictures in the links you posted I can see the serial numbers on the labels, right under the word "HENNESSY". This one, on another hand is clear. Looks like tihzho is spot on.

A good book, for anyone interested in the subject of the market for counterfeit alcohol, is "The Billionaire's Vinegar", available on Kindle. It's an easy and fun read about a scam artist who did quite well for himself discovering and selling old wine (such as a cache of wine in Paris in Thomas Jefferson's house that was hidden behind a wall and found when the house was renovated - except it was all fakery). Quite a lot of the activity goes on in Asia, Hong Kong in particular.

All genuine HENNESSY products do not always have a serial number,so it is unfair to justify that the one without serial number is a fake product, even some high end product may only have a small tag certificate with number. Please watch these 2 bottles carefully one has a serial number and the other has not, I got these directly from a representative from Hennessy, to know the difference is so simple just by knowing the story of the product by watching the number and the dots position at the bottom of each bottle and only the expert knows this secret code.thanks

How does it make sense to have a verification system that only 'experts' understand?

Well, if you look at the Louis Vuitton and Bausch & Lomb approches; they were very easy to crack and copy anyway. So better to have a 'secret' verification approach then. Hermès offers a service to determine whether it's a real bag btw. Wonder if Hennessy does the same? Many clubs serve fake booze nowadays too.

He could be right with the coding but it's weird that the cognac forums don't mention this.

Hennessy gets more and more quoted in the rap world so it has become rather cool. About coolness; remember this? Rather funny...

Pretty much anything can be copied including (and perhaps especially) "secret" codes and other indices of authenticity. In some cases, in some aspects, the copies provide greater value than the original. (Ask Galaxy users.) I must point out as well, that branding as a stalking horse for differentiating quality from the also-ran, often yields false positives.

Huh? I see what appears to be a serial number on both bottles, or perhaps it's just a stock number.

Anyone know the secret of how to verify if the Hennessy Code 'expert' is for real or a chancer ? Buy from official sources only I guess.
