One? We have two of our volcanoes which are erupting. Gunung Lokon & Gunung Soputan. The latter has litterally covered in volcanic hash my cars and motorbike. I woke up to find that all our cars are now white. No big deal though and certainly far more fun than the FPI clowns.

No not at all, I agree with you on every point regarding freedom of speech, i just feel that under the present circumstances when people are dying over this religious bullshit it was a little misjudged on the timing. Should have waited a few months til the fuss over the film has died down and then released the cartoons for maximum effect (wink) for me personally i would rather look at photos of tits than cartoons of mohammed any day.

100% agree with you. It's pretty easy for Charlie Hebdo to act as the white knight in shiny freedom of speech armor when they immediately get police trucks parked in front of their office for protection. How about the staff at the embassies in the Muslim world? Who protects them?

In addition, Charlie Hebdo is a business, and I can't help but thinking that they are simply riding the wave of controversy in order to sell more magazines...

    See quote below from wikipedia:

Controversy arose over the publication's February 9, 2006 edition. Under the title "Mahomet débordé par les intégristes" ("Muhammad overwhelmed by fundamentalists"), the front page showed a cartoon of a weeping Prophet Muhammad saying "C'est dur d'être aimé par des cons" ("it's hard being loved by jerks"). The newspaper reprinted the twelve cartoons of the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy and added some of their own. Compared to a regular circulation of 100,000 sold copies, this edition enjoyed great commercial success. 160,000 copies were sold and another 150,000 were in print later that day.

I think Charlie Hebdo is making publicity and money here. From a pure business perspective, I think they're smart. They reap all the benefit while French government (and citizens) shoulder most of the danger and associated cost.

Darling, as much as I disagree with anything, I think we also should see that the 'revenge' from the rioters are far from just in itself. And IF people refrain from freedom of expression because of this kind of barbaric act, I am afraid soon the Christians will follow the example (HEY they have a lot of experience in the middle age), and the Hindus, etc...

And soon we can't talk anything bad except about the weather...hihihi.

That's my take on this case.

Talking like a bigoted moron is legally protected in the US, but I am not going to do it just because I might lose the 'right' to do so.

Deciding what is classed as 'bigoted' discussion is a big problem as well. Political correctness run amok in the US has left good people unable to discuss and work to solve valid problems for fear that some fringe group will consider it a bigoted attack.

Islam has now more of a radical, dangerous element that most any other religion. I'm convinced that it is not core to the religion or most of it's members. But we are collectively avoiding directly addressing this and potentially helping muslims over come the radicalization of a peaceful religion for fear of violating some fringe groups perverse interpretation of political correctness.

    Hihihi,
Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot, defined by Merriam-Webster as "a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance".[
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry

I think bigotry comes from the film maker, but also from the people who want to ruin USA, Israel and Western World.

So if you might NOT lose the 'right' to do so, WOULD you do that?

Actually we should see the film in perspective. I mean, ARE the film made solely based on hatred and without base at all, OR is it just deviating from the real sources (it means they made it like they made Jesus' film of marrying Maria Magdalene)?

I've seen bits of the film and, without knowing the author/director's intent, it appears to be more of a comedy satire. It's a spoof film. ...and a poorly made one at that.

I'd put it more on par with Monty Python's Life of Brian than The Passion of the Christ.

While somewhat disrespectful, it certainly doesn't warrant the global claimed response it's received. While I am a believer, it's hard for me to understand the religious ferver that errupts over this type of thing. I mean, what would heaven be like if God doesn't have a sense of humor????
