You can buy cheapish is wine from kemang duty Free, but, you will need:

    a. to time it very well. i.e. no customs officers there... or
    b. be a diplomat or have a diplomat card... or
    b. know somebody who works there and get it 'off the back of a lorry'

I have a 4-litre box of Italian red now, and it was 450,000

    good luck.

Bought a bottle each of Two Islands Chardonnay and Cab Sav at Bali Deli (180k each) for cooking purposes. Just had a mouthful of the white and it was pretty good. It's a cooperative venture - grapes from Australia (Tassie?), vintaged/bottled in Bali. Dunno if it's available in Jakarta.

Wow... More than 10 euros/liter for boxed wine... This is why I stay sober...

Inexpensive has become a pretty relative and subjective word when it comes to wines in Jakarta...when I first came here last year, I just couldn't accept paying Rp.300,000 for a $7 Jacob's Creek...a few months later, found a supplier who could sell to me for Rp 250,000 I thought it was 'not so expensive'. Knew another supplier that used to supply me a few bottles a month (to resell), but I didn't know enough people in my social circle who like wine AND can buy a few bottles (at Rp up to 300,000/btl)/mth...so I stopped.

Bali: I'd say forget Hatten. I was pretty much in the dark like many others, drinking tart red wines from them and kept telling myself "Yeah, this is alright..". That was until I found Two Islands brand..kinda owned by Hatten also I think.

If I am not mistaken, Two Islands' grape juice is imported from Australia and fermented in Bali, so at least you got a decent grape juice to start with, vs Hatten's Aga red, which is grown in Bali. Two Island's cab and shiraz, are more drinkable (again- for the price under Rp 250,000).

Artisan is another brand in Bali- makes only Chardonnay I believe. Also quite drinkable for about Rp 200,000.

The only somewhat drinkable ones from Hatten would be the Riesling and Alexandria.

    Just my opinion though

I definitely don't drink as often here, compare to back home in the US....so in a way, my liver thanks me....

In Jakarta: RAM Duty Free, Vin+, Eco Prima Duty Free.... All wine in Indonesia is expensive. You will have to pay way over the rrp the wine is sold at in the country of origin. Chardonnay wine doesn't seem to keep well here as it isn't stored correctly before sale. A wine that is good to drink will cost USD22-25 in Jakarta. Sometimes you can pickup decent quaff stuff for around USD18.

Unless you hold a diplomatic card, or you're willing to bribe the cashiers, you can't purchase anything from Duty Free Shops in Jakarta.

We have our little bar supplied by a Bandung-based supplier. Here's their website http://winespiritshop.com/

They'll send to Jakarta and the price+delivery to Jakarta is still cheaper than other booze vendors I find here.
