I'll try.
Indonesian school textbooks don't explain it this way, they simply list several possible meanings of each affix or affix set with no explanation on the logic. That method works fine for Indonesians because we don't really need an explanation to begin with (as we learn it through immersion), but it's not very helpful for non-natives. I believe there's logic to this complex mechanism, so I set out to find it when a specific question is posed (or when a particular affix just happens to cross my mind). There's probably a smart linguist out there that has compiled the logical explanation for each affix set in Indonesian, but I haven't found his work.
