While I've been in the US, my wife has hired a part time maid. It's worked out well, as the three times a week she comes in is fine. A few hours is all that is needed. She works for another mixed family nearby, so just walks from the next street to work later in the day.

I don't think we'd have a maid at all if the baby wasn't coming. I'm glad about not having a live in. Too much overkill, and we're not looking for a nanny.

No, I am serious, I am also not stupid enough to pay 3 Juta for a maid with no education and a bad attitude.

You opinion is yours and while you are free to air it here, I dont care what it is. You must have a degree in maid studies then. I am not sure where the college is for maid studies. Maybe you can enlighten us all.

If she is happy with the salary, as an uneducated 17 year old, why is it a problem for you?

I am not your "bud" dont want to be and never will be. Just another way of showing your rude attitude.

I have to agree with Jim, my sister pays 500K for her 18 year old nanny. She is very good with my niece and a good helper all around. She lives in so she gets all the amenities. Free food, all bills paid lodging. Basically she can send all of her salary home if she wants to. PLEASE do NOT get sucked in to the 'bule' price and do more research about standard household staff pay!! FYI - I believe the starting wage for a fresh university graduate in an office (admin staff) is 1.5 to 3 juta.

Stop comparing Indonesian standard of living with north american standards. What you consider as slave wage is actually normal in Indonesia. Most (if not all) maids come from rural areas in Java, their living cost is VERY cheap. Indonesia is a tropical country, with all year growing season. So, basic necessities are very cheap in these areas (and no they don't consider electricity, phone and internet as basic necessities), as long as they have food and water, they're all good!!
