Thread: Looking for expats for 1 day filming next weekend in Bali - PAYING GIG

Talk about opening a can of worms...should really have known better. Anyway for everyone's info, this is not a 'low budget' job as was eluded to but a commercial for an international brand fronted by a well known actor. It involves filming in two 5-star resorts in Bali and I know from my friend that this is not a two- bit operation looking to cut corners.

All places have been filled now - those that actually followed my original instructions to PM me have received the details...

Anyway, while some people may find some of these comments valuable, I think its about time you all took these petty squabbles to a different thread...

Given that information, I would definitely not have jumped on MadCat for pointing out about the work permit. However, it is good to know what Atlantis pointed out that as long as the work is "exceptional" it might still be ok.

Petty squabbles or not, I'm sure there's enough useful information in this thread to leave it up, although it seems like the discussion is basically finished as of a few posts ago anyway.

As usual, thanks to atlantis for providing his insights.

    Cheers!

Cool - 15 expats deliver themselves to the police to get ripped off. Authorities will be there to collect the money.

But if they are asking bribes and say that if you don't pay they will keep you indefinitely in their jail, what do you do then? Just stay in jail and wait for them to change their mind, whenever that may be? Threaten to report them to their boss (who may be more corrupt than they are)?

I do remember once being stopped in a taxi by a policeman who wanted 500k otherwise he would jail me like this (for the offence of not having my passport with me). It was just before Ramadan. I paid 300k, because I had others things I needed to do, rather than get into a legal argument and who knows what might happen in jail.
I would still never carry my passport with me, the risk of losing it for me is far greater. Anyway since 2008 the situation hasnt happened again.

50k is the "official" no passport fine.

    Thumbs up To Atlantis

    To Atlantis,

First of all thank you so much for posting your experiences with becoming a guest speaker up. I hope you and your family are all well in Manado.

I have two cases I'd like to get your opinion about:

    1. A couple of years ago two foreigners, one a missionary and another a tourist were deported from Aceh because they had become speakers in a workshop. The article can be found here: http://www.waspada.co.id/index.php?o...aceh&Itemid=26

What are your thoughts on this considering it was not repeated and it was exceptional (a workshop is a once off event).

    2. Also recently there was a fairly well known and respected expat who has spent over 10 years in Indonesia (including going to university here). Due to his single status for a period of time to continue to reside here while unemployed he was on a SosBud visa with the sponsor being his friend. He was often asked to deliver the Friday sermon in various Masjids around his area. He did not ask any money for this but of course was probably handed envelopes as is the tradition. The immigration officials refused to extend his SosBud for this reason unless he paid them an exorbitant fee/fine, saying that what he was doing was considered as 'work'.

I'm interested to get your opinions on the above cases only because I've heard and seen things like this happening a lot and am wondering whether the immigration officials involved are within the law (doing their job) or just finding ways to supplement their income.

Also do you think that it could be possible that when you became a speaker at government organised events you were very unlikely to be prosecuted because they would implicate their fellow civil servants in the process? Or you're sure that it was because of the type of work you were doing?

Also could your being married to an Indonesian and having your wife as a sponsor have given you more protection? Or do you think it would be the same for somebody on another kind of visa?

Sorry if I'm putting to much up there, your post really interested me and your information is always highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    T_T
