Default Brunch at KOI / Kemang

Went to Koi this past weekend to try their brunch. Eggs Benedict with smoked beef..... Ham and Egg sandwich with Danish ham (made from beef)...... Eggs and beef bacon.... The restaurant had over 40 customers, all expats except one table of Chinese Indonesians. Why wouldn't they have pork bacon and real ham. Skipped the brunch menu, ordered from the lunch menu and crossed it off of my lists of restaurants that I'll go back to. I would much rather support restaurants that offer a real breakfast / brunch menu with pork items especially when they cater to an expat clientele.

I agree with you that they may want to consider using pork products.

That said, you did go to brunch during Ramadan, so the likelihood of you seeing Muslim customers is zero. I've eaten at Koi many times, and I usually see lots of rich-looking Indonesian customers. So I wouldn't say that the clientelle is 100% expat (though expats outnumber the Indonesians).

    Blanca,

I agree that most Muslims aren't out for brunch at Ramadan so my observation was skewed. On the other hand, most of wealthy educated Muslims that I know enjoy pork now and then as well. I also understand that some restaurants want to remain 100% halal, I have no problem with that, but I wont be eating at them for breakfast or brunch because I feel both of those meals are incomplete without my friend the pig on the menu.
