Thread: A trustworthy English-speaking vet in Jakarta?

Default A trustworthy English-speaking vet in Jakarta?

    Hi animal lovers!

Sorry, if the topic is repeated, however, I was wondering if someone could recommend a good English-speaking vet in Central Jakarta or elsewhere in Jakarta provided the vet is really good?

Will be relocating with 3 pets in due course and need to make sure we 'make friends' with one.

Also, do you know if vets 'work' with the strays? Where I am at the moment, we do extensive TNR (trap-neuter-release programme) to improve the situation with the strays. Vet clinics offer discounted rates which makes it possible to do so. Are there any animal rescue organisations like Feline Friends/K9 or the like?

I have seen a few unneutered strays in where we gonna leave and would like to get at least them done for the sake of my own cats who would probably be going outdoors from time to time.

Many thanks in advance for all your input.

    All the best
    Maria

Yes, I agree. I administer medicine myself when needed. Haven't dared the injections yet though but still need an expert advice if they happen to catch a bug or some type of mites.
Will defo need a good vet for neutering of strays around.

    Will PM you.

    Thanks

    Hello my namesake.

You can contact our vet, drh Nyomie Hamblynn. she's highly recommended and she also runs a shelter for abandoned animals. You can find her details and the clinic (petsmile clinic) on facebook.

You can also PM for her details.

    Regards,

    Maria.

Merci beaucoup for the contact! I like "the shelter for abandonded animals" bit. I admire these people.

We take our dog to the Animal Clinic (http://animalclinicjakarta.com/acj/) and we have been happy with Dr Ooy who works there (but not full time so you have to call and ask them for her hours). They also do stuff like pet rescue and sterilization. You can find more info about this on their website.

Another plus for the Animal Clinic Jakarta is that they are closely affiliated with the Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN), which does a lot of work on behalf of strays and speaks out against animal exploitation in Indonesia.

Regarding the links to Groovy and JakPetz above - neither one is a vet per se, they are both pet stores. But they do offer a large range of pet-related services including agents to handle the paperwork for pet exporting/importing, grooming, and boarding. I'm sure either one can direct you to a vet if necessary. Both are great resources.

Not a vet recommendation, but: if you are an animal lover looking for an interesting weekend activity that will help support endangered animals, I suggest a visit to the Animal Sanctuary Trust Indonesia, where endangered species that were kept as pets and then seized because it's illegal to keep them (or the owners grew tired of them) are rehabilitated. It's in Bogor and a tour of their facilities make for a great outing, at the same time you are supporting a worthy cause. Their website is: http://www.animalsanctuarytrustindonesia.org (the website is a little out of date, but don't draw any negative conclusions from that; they're a great organization.)

Thanks for the info! Will definitely make it there!
