Hey, have requested a quote from both JakPetz and Grovvy Pets. The latter seems *much* cheaper at this stage...

Just phoned the vets to ask about the rabies serology test-it costs an arm and a leg as they have to send the samples to the UK! Haven't tried the option your hinted at above yet....

On another note, do pets REALLY have to be quarantined?))))

Talking about a risk I would never take (cf. El_G's en blanca's remarks)....

Also, it really is the only test necessary where they have to look at.

Yes. And sometimes no. But we are not allowed to give any illegal advice in this forum.

Many -many thanks for the info. Just as I was about to panic in anticipation off all the running around with the 3 pets!

I wonder though if they require a fresh rabies test? Our cats have been vaccinated against rabies this year with the dog's vaccination valid till 2014.

    Would you know that?

    Thanks and all the best

Hi Maria, good to know this helps someone

My cat's last rabies shot was good until 2013, actually. But since the vaccination was done longer than 1 year ago, we had to redo it. The shot has to be administered between 1 month and 1 year from the date of importation. And Jakpetz also told me they could take care of it so we didn't have to do the rabies shot, but even if it's taken care of on the Indonesian side, the Canadian officials needed to see it to allow the importation. So this depends on how strict your local authorities are.

If you talk to the agents, they might offer you a home quarantine option for an extra fee.

Rules vary a lot, so always check with the airline. I know many US airlines allow dogs/cats in First Class to international destinations. Off the top of my head, I don't know if any US airline flys to Indonesia these days.

I'm in the process of moving over to Solo and we're just going through the process of getting quotes with agencies Jetpets and Dogtainers so far. The pricing vary's wildly, mainly because Dogtainers are going to road transport our animals from Jakarta to Jog... I'm actually wondering how we could do the transfer from Jakarta to Jog ourselves / by other means to save on this part as it seems to be the main cost.

Given the advice on the forum I'm actually thinking we might sort it out ourselves and forgo the whole agency cost... assuming we'd have to place the furkids in boarding here; head over and start to settle ourselves in as well as sort out their importation; then maybe come back and collect - transport them as 'excess baggage'... any comments / advice would be appreciated

    Hi Dave1w,
Can you tell me how much was the cost for getting the permit if you get it done by yourself?

    thank you
