Thread: Openbox Indovision Setup problem

    Default Openbox Indovision Setup problem

A while ago I was on this forum about buying a Dreambox.
I didn't and bought an Openbox in Jogja because it is 250k cheaper than in Bandung, now
back in Bandung I run into all sorts of problems.
I checked the box in Jogja and all was well, it displayed HD even though he only had a
HD ready Tv, so displayed 720P.
Now I am here and the first time it showed HD, full screen, after a restart it only shows
choices for 480i and 576i.(photo below)
That’s the first problem, many more to come.
I selected the right Satellite, Telkom 1 and did a blind scan, found about 120 TV channels
    and about 16 Radio stations.
Then I inserted the Indovision card and it crashes, it reboots and only shows two dashes
    on the display (photo below).
What way does the card go in, the manual is limited and doesn't say which way to insert?
Now, I think this might be of old firmware and want to upgrade the firmware, sadly there
is no USB firmware option available in the Tools Menu, should be but it's just not there,
probably too old firmware, it says 10-10-26.
Is it possible to upgrade over ethernet, I have an Apple Powerbook and can not run Windows
on this machine, only the newer ones can so I can not update over serial.
That's My next question, is it possible to do over serial, then I have to buy a USB to serial
    Cable.
Another problem is that I can not set the BOXID, it is greyed out, probably because My
Indovision card is not inside but as I said before it crashes the system.

Do I need to set up CCcam if I only have one receiver and one TV, I think it's only needed
when I card share which I do later on.

Just tried again with Palapa and as soon as I insert the card it reboots, hope the card reader
is not broken, or is Indovisions card different now, I still had an old receiver from Indovision
with a card, I inserted it and now it does not crash.
I think something is going on with the card.

EDIT: No, inserted again(Old card) and same there, crash again.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Note: My internet is too slow now to upload photo's, also everything goes wrong today, just
    such a day

P.S. My internet is capped and I will get back tomorrow, too damned slow now.

    Cheers Perry

Openbox is basicly a Dreambox clone. First you have to download a appropriate image. I use and like Openpli. Images here: http://www.sat-universe.com/showthread.php?t=210858 Make sure you get one that matches your bootloader (SSL) and SIM card.

Turn power on while holding the power button for +/- 10 seconds. A IP address will appear on the box screen. Use your browser to go to that IP address. The browser will open a page that somewhere has a button (text) to click to install your new firmware. Follow instructions. Turn CCcam on. Put your indovision card with contacts up. Scan the transponders for channels and voila you have Indovision on a OPenbox. You don't need BOXID.

    Telkomvision is exactly the same.

PS. This is something your vendor all should have done...

    Thanks Bali88

I didn't have internet yesterday, pulsa was finished so a bit late.
I found a solution for the resolution, a bit odd in the menu that's why I couldn't find it, had to set from RGB to YUV, instead of detecting it by itself.
My Raspberry Pi can do that so why not this Openbox is beyond My .....

Sadly I just tried, does not work, I know the dreambox has a power button but this one only has a main switch on the back and on the front there are
only a Standby, menu, Ok and channels/volume up/down.

Can't try more now, the wife is watching
Wish they just had the dreambox, seems to be a nicer box.

I'll come back tomorrow, try some more after your advice, I will try the other buttons as well.

    Cheers Perry

EDIT, forgot to say, I think the card needs to go in the other side up in this box, looked inside with flashlight, they are on the bottom.

    I looked on the site.
Sorry but I think you are wrong, I think this is NOT a dreambox clone and has it's own Images.
There are lots of chinese dreambox clones and they look like dreamboxes but mine does not look like one.

I already downloaded a few images, I looked into images before like enigma and believe me I never found one for Openbox, just google it, you won't find one.
My Original Image is an old one and does not have USB image upload but others seem to have it, just bad luck or an Openbox clone.

You are right. Me wrong. Openbox is a little different. Still the vendor should be able to help you.

    No worries.

No I didn't, I ordered it from Singapore form Element 14, be aware though, they charge S$ 30 for shipping and F$%king UPS/Indo customs charge tax on the whole amount so also the shipping.
Had this before when I ordered something from the US to Europe, UPS is horrible.
Another thing to be aware of is that if you order it will take months to arrive, there is a long waiting list.
And until now I had many problems with it, interference on HDMI output video due to old firmware, just yesterday I put Fedora remix on it and it won't except the passwords I just put in 1 minute before, lots of problems still, not for the faint hearted.

    No worries.

That's a bit of a problem, I stated that I bought it in jogja while there for a short holiday, and it's 8 hours by train,
    185.000 one way.
Saved myself 250.000 but if I have to send it up and down I would have been better of buying it here.
Also, the problem is I don't speak much bahasa, otherwise I would give them a call.
I'll try to fix it myself first and if I can't get it to work I will let the wife call them.
Another problem is that it takes time on Sat forums to find answers, that is if there is a solution.
I already read quite a few stories of people not able to use their cards in this box, they end up card sharing.

Everything works well now, except the most important(crashes on card insertion).

Actually I should try to point it at another satellite with free channels and see if it works, but then again Indovision
is S band so I guess that won't work because the LNB is not KU or C band.

    Update

I have been busy for the last week to try and solve the problems I have.
Did all the things I could do, trying to update through USB but no USB
Upgrade button in Menu,Update through Serial bus but didn't work on My
mac, also tried in an internet café but same result.
So, I send the seller an email and just got an email back, He was aware
of the problem, WTF, why didn't he tell me when I was there.
(Main problem, crashes when Indovision card inserted and no USB upgrade)
But, he asked me to be patient and give him a few days to investigate.
Hopefully if the problem with this box can't be solve I will exchange it for
a SKybox F3 or preferably a dreambox, don't care if I have to pay more,
a dreambox at least will work.

Good luck Mate. I would exchange it for a dreambox DM800SE. I guess you will have to pay a little more.
