    I tried tomatoes here they grow and grow, but never fruit, I bought some Coriander seeds, planted them watered them stood back and quite a lot of seedlings came up, I was quite excited told the wife, she said they are chillies, rubbish they are Coriander, nope, she was quite sure they were chilli, it appears she planted chilli seeds and didnt tell me, still we have loads of chillies, sadly I dont like Chilli,

    My tomatoes are doing great (full of fruit) , I am now on the 2nd batch - taken from the seeds of the original crop- they smell and taste so much stronger than the local ones

    Though I do have them in pots, not in the ground.

    @Anglian, do remember to nip the side-shoots out as they grow, this concentrates all the nutrients on the main stem.

    maybe you have a tiny visitor on your flower that is finding it delicious...?
    That happened to some of mine... luckily this batch seems to be doing much better than my first lot.

    lol @6foot yes I think it may well have bolted.

    As for where it came from;
    it has likely come from bird droppings or maybe someone was eating a tomato outside and dropped some seeds...?

    We have a lot of ulat tanah, that's the caterpillar of a moth; they probably came along with a batch of Anthuriums. A real pest and very annoying since they eat mainly the roots; that's a certain death for seedlings and even bigger plants. Not much you can do either besides luring or drowning. So now they attack the small jack-fruits and durians.

    coriander - have had success here - the young plants seemed to appreciate the protection afforded by adjacent rows of rocket. You need to balance keeping the water up to them with the likelihood of them bolting early. Nevertheless we had some nice thai salads with coriander and mint this year. Weird though - the rocket won't bolt - I've left some plants in and they refuse to go to seed!

    It is easy to make a little wall mounted herb garden from some old aluminium cans and a bit of board and a few screws and a lick of paint.
    I am just on with one now...
