Both of my sisters and my dad (Yup, my dad. Very hard to believe.) likes that movie. So far, never bored to watch it. So unfortunate, I haven't found its schedule.

Soegija is certainly the movie to see, an interesting Indonesian film to say the least and playing to packed cinema houses!

I did not know what it was about before watching it but I had heard about the fuss. No English sub titles of course but they are not really needed. It is a very beautiful and evocative film set in 1940 about an Indonesian Priest called Soegija in Semarang. Likely to appeal more to the Christian community and less so to Muslim and Hindhus but overall it is a very enjoyable film and easy to follow.

Also helps to understand the Indonesian struggle for independence from 1940 until 1945 and beyond.

Just curious, was Bung Karno called that as a nickname in the 1940s? And was Bahasa Indonesian the language of the country then? Take a look at the beer bottles as the Dutch guys are a-drinking merrily, straight out of the supermarket?

I did feel the film was especially toned down for a wider audience and hence so many schoolchildren watching it. Not sure they get the point in the movie about religion war and politics. enjoy the movie!

Nice. Sounds like a history movie. Hmm... suddenly I remember the movie of Naga Bonar 2.
    I smile.
