Default Correlation of Religion With Poverty

I wondered what the correlation of religion with poverty was this afternoon and had a bit of look on the interweb to see what I could find. Probably not that surprisingly there does indeed appear to be some relationship between the two. Which country do you think this association is most prevalent? And the winner is http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/09...-with-poverty/
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car.

I love your sig, that is so true! Poverty by extension mean uneducated, and when you have masses of uneducated poor people they easily manipulated.

Tangles, I was thinking about this the other day but never got around to checking the internet to see if I was right.

Just remember... Indonesia is the happiest...

The knowledge that the meek shall inherit the earth would probably help to keep you quite chipper.I was tempted to review my inquiry into the correlation between religion and intelligence, but thought better of it.

Is religion one of the causes poverty or does poverty lead to people taking up religion? The idea of a heaven could be very attractive to someone already living in their own personal hell.

Poor people are more inclined to be religious as it gives them a sense of hope or some kind of solace I think as apposed to religion causing poverty, although it is evident that churches manipulate and take a great deal from the poor as well. If you believe in God you would have to say he creates poverty, illness, suffering and everything else that is cruel in the world. If you don't believe in God you will spend an eternity in pain, suffering and torture - but he is a loving God.

At the same time officially anti-religious states don't necessarily fare better off than those who allow religions to thrive... Look at the Soviet Union.
